Grow closet setup advice needed

  1. Ok, so I'm looking to start my first grow, I have a closet on the main floor of our apartment, that is under the stairs, just over 3x3x6 feet of useable space, also, that is where the access to the crawl space is under the building. My questions are, I'm lookin to start with about 2 plants only, is that enough room for them? How much lighting is necessary for an area that size? I'm looking at 600 watt so far, would that be enough/too much? The walls are already painted off white, would that be ok, or would I need to hang some panda paper? And also, could I vent into the crawl space, and if so, what would be a good way to set that up? Sorry for so many questions, I'm just very new to this, thank you!

  2. My flower chamber I just built is about the same size as yours. Come check it out. Im running a 400w MH atm but a 600HPS will go in there just fine. You don't need panda if its white really.

Also listing your equipment and pictures help a bunch.

  3. You'll have to keep them "unnaturally" low with only 6 feet of space...but that's easy to do.
And with as short as you'll have to keep them, you could easily run FOUR plants in that as a good SCROG or a VERY good LST (SCROG easier in those conditions).

Figure it thusly...if you use 5 gallon buckets for your "planter", those are 12 inches diameter, 12 inches tall. Your plants technically need about an 18 inch square around them. A meter if you're growing to anywhere near full maturity, but you won't be doing that.

So now you have 5 feet of space for your plant.

You need 2-3 for an HID light system, 1-2 for LED, and CFL, done right, you can use all but about 6" of your headroom...but will have smaller plants because of lower light levels, anyhow (and the bud won't be as high yield as possible, but good, for the circumstances, under CFL)

So figure that...from what you said earlier, if I remember right, you have an HID system available...use it if you can control heat.

So now you've used 3-4 feet of your 6 feet...

A fast 8 week veg SCROGed at 10", or kept LSTd to about that, you now have a plant that, after topping and training, is ready for flower while standing (bent to hell and back) 10 inches off your pots...or a total of about 2 feet of spaces used on bottom, 2-3 on top.

Since the plants grow about 50% again during flower, you have two choices...keep training/SCROGging the flowers (which can cost you small amounts of potency, as you lose trichromes as you bend them, towards the end)...or risk burning buds towards the end...smart man trains until he sees the first trichromes starting to fall on sugar and water leaves (about halfway through bloom) to avoid this, while minimizing risk.

A proper LST or SCROG, you are now dealing with about "3.5 feet" of plant matter (had it grown naturally) trained so that it's actually only 2.5 feet tall (off the grow medium), still plenty low for blooming while avoiding burning.

Done like this, once you know how to get the PLANTS to perform to their best, you should see anywhere from 4-6 ounces a plant at that size. As you become "the average grower", you'll see 2-4 per plant. First crop, anywhere from 1/2 to 2 per plant (depending on inherent talent and study).

Once you become truly expert at this, in a 3 by 3 by 6 space, if you can't pull a minimum of a pound off 4 plants in that space, something's seriously wrong....but you'll be on about your fifth or sixth grow by the time you're that good, minimum.

  4. Thank you for that info! Very helpful, and anyone know what the best way to vent would be? Or would having a tent in the closet be best? My thoughts are if I can get away without a tent, I can spend more on higher quality lights
