So have never scroged before just wanting some input on my grow. Cyco nutrients 1000 watt hps 8 bulb t5 veg these plants are 7 weeks old put in flower yesterday
When people first coined the term ScrOG back in the 80's, growers primarily used chicken wire with 1" holes for the screen and all the branches were kept below the screen and only the buds poked through. The definition / method seems to have evolved into growing through a support lattice (or two in some cases), and using it for support and training. I'm doing basically the same thing with steel wire fencing that has 2" x 4" openings.
Two layers of lattice that's the method I have always been taught but I've only been growing a couple years I think I'm going to try and switch
You could switch to something with smaller holes 2" x2" like mentioned before. If you stick with string get it tighter to actually hold the plant back. I like string over metal fencing, but that's a personal choice and you do have to keep it snug. Those big squared nets are more of a support net IMO. I'm going with a more rigid frame next time. I used PVC so I had flex to get it in my tight space. I have to be able to bend it to get it in. I've came up with a plan to make a rigid frame hinge in the middle.
Nice killset looks great! your right pvc is key I just can't seem to keep it tight without it. Thanks for all the insight guys keep it coming. grow on!
That's like 5/8" PVC, I should of used 3/4" or better yet 1" to make it more solid. I was worried about getting into the room my tents in, then twisting it into the tent. The line is masons line and a few screws. All total like $12. I had my own PVC glue and cleaner, but its cheap.
Good stuff I'm gonna try 1" like you suggest. already have mason string should be pretty easy. What line of nutes you running killset?
Kill set if I want to veg 4-6 plants in a 4x4 tent should I use a 600w hid light mh bulb alone?. I have a t5 but it's the smaller one with 4-6 bulbs (been in storage for 3-4 years so I don't remember exactly lol) or can i use them both and get better vegging results. Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I would start them under the t5 and eventually move them to the 600. That's pretty much what I do but I use cfls and led instead of a t5. The 600 is sufficient to veg 6 plants. It wouldn't hurt to use both after they get some size to them, but its not necessary either. I probably wouldn't .
Looks good so far, As said above smaller holes 2 inches max. The point is to force the upward growth back under the mesh to force a new node growth and maximize light exposure to the buds. The plant is always going to grow to the light (up) so if you force the actual top of the plant horizontal you will create new nodes and the fact they are getting huge light penetration causes them to grow large, you loose the 1 massive cola but gain many large ones. Another note keep the screen 10-12 inches from the top of the pot so you can get the plants into the screens sooner and start the weaving. I let my plants touch the (bottom) screens then "top" them and weave the newly formed top opposite directions from each other in the screen ( these two new growths are "super cropped"), this helps fill the screen out faster and more controlled and even. Im currently running a high yield widow so i let the screen fill about 70% before i swap to Flower. After two weeks in flower i "Lollipop" the plants and keep the weaving going till they are ready to harvest. this is just my method works well for me hope it helps .
