I think you're giving the current administration a lot of unwarranted credit for actually having some kind of foreign policy regarding the Middle East. That is, other than flipping the finger at many of our previous friends and kissing the asses of those who would love to destroy us. The way it looks to me, these people are just a bunch of lying, bungling hyper-idealists that when all is said and done, have done more to undermine stability in the region through their inconsistent, counterproductive meddling than any other single contributing factor.
The whole thing is tragic. There's no good guy here, no righteous side. Just people fucking other people up in vicious cycles.
Hamas leadership is actually very clever and knows exactly what they are doing by exacerbating the conflict that allows them to stay in power and receive international funding while steadily eroding Israeli support in the western world. Once you realize that they care less about the average Palestinian than the Israeli generals, everything they do starts making perfect sense.
