downstem top rim broke fix with krazy glue? (pictures included)

    hey guys i have a beaker water pipe with a removable down stem, 4-way tree percolator and a ice catcher. its not too big and its very simple, with no special design in the glass apart from what affects how its used.
     
    earlier today it tipped over from the weight of the nail over setting the weight of the water holding it down and stable. it landed directly on the nail and pushed the glass at an angle. while the it cooled a piece of glass popped off the top lip and sent cracks an inch through.
     
    all i have to fix it is krazy glue but now im wondering if its probably a bad idea to use a nail in contact with glue because of toxins?
     
    am i safe to use it or am i looking to buy a new down stem?

    If there's any heat going to the glue I wouldn't use it, just my 2 cents. Cheers!

    Your best bet is to buy a new downstem.
     
    However, there may be another solution. If you have a propane or map gas torch, you can heat the glass till its red hot and the glass will smooth out in the cracks. The cracks will still be visible but will be stronger than what it was with the cracks. It looks like your downstem is boro so heating it up and letting it cool without annealing should be ok. My favorite hand pipe has broken twice now, luckily only into two pieces, but I used my torch to put it back together and it works perfectly like the day I bought it.

    I always use a hot glue gun. Its a temp fix though. You will absolutely 100% need to get a new downstem entirely within the next two weeks

    My friend has broken downstem toi and he just ducktaped it and its been all cool for months ( it's even under water)
