Skunk and psychosis

  1. sensationalist bullshit there my friend, not a word of truth in that article.

I don't know how they get away with writing this shit.

  2. especially when it is illegal to test the cannabis. where are they getting their tests for the info they spew - an illegal test sourcing agency?

  3. No skunk for me. I stopped it last October. Now I only smoke outdoor.

Things I don't like about skunk:

    1) Smells too much and I don't like the smell or the taste. Can't even smoke it in public. I especially hate the UK Cheese strain.

    2) Often its too wet and I see people adding tobacco just to make it burn properly.

    3) Its not worth the price. I grew Sour Diesel (4 plants, got 6 ounces) and I would never ever pay £20 for almost 2 grams. Fuck that.

    4) It makes you lazy, dumb and now apparently, causes psychosis.

Steer clear of skunk. Our wise ancestors didn't need it.

I grow skunk outdoors. Your argument is invalid.  :smoking:

  5. thc is a mild psychedelic. Some individuals can get flipped out from it. The higher the thc percentage, the greater the chance of a prone person flipping out. The more socially accepted it becomes, the more people are going to try it, the more cases of mild psychoses theres going to be. If that happens to someone, then they shouldnt smoke it. Its about that simple. Really no reason for alarm.

  6. I get the feeling the guy who wrote that article doesn't even smoke weed. Just a feeling. The study that he refers to does appear to have found a correlation between the amount of skunk weed smoked per week and the likelihood of first episode psychosis. Participants who smoked skunk weed more often were more likely to experience first episode psychosis. It does seem like a worrying correlation, but I'm sure I'd need to read a lot more studies to truly understand all of the factors at play.

I do wonder though. Sure, there is weed out there that has very high concentrations of THC. But for all of my buddies, this means we smoke less because it gets us high more easily. Just because someone buys concentrated weed, it doesn't mean they aim to get as high as they can; stoners self-titrate their usage. This is the main reason why I am hesitant to buy into the idea that highly concentrated weed is more dangerous.

  7. More sensationalist bullshit :confused_2:  which seems to be appearing regular now. Big pharma, tobacco, and all the drug "warriors" are busy lying their asses off. I love the skunk strains. Great meds. I use them specifically for "psych" issues. Been using them for about 2 years. Everyday. No problems with it other than finding enough :smoke:  enjoy the skunk :ey:

You guys have to understand this from a British context, which is where all this bullshit comes from. Cannabis simply doesn't scare people that much anymore. It's been around for ages, lots of people have smoked it including the politicians who are telling us how awful it is. The political parties with aid from the media have had to create a new way to scare people and perpetrate this antidrugs bullshit while they feel it benefits them to do so.

They decided to basically make the concept of a new drug called SKUNK and claim that it's completely different from mere 'weed' (or 'hash' is the term they often use for some reason). They misrepresented data gathered from already dubious research to claim that this is a new, dangerous form of cannabis that makes you go totally psycho. This is particularly hilarious when there is no standard definition as to what constitutes 'skunk'. It certainly has nothing to do with the strain of the same name (in the UK 'skunk' has been a byword for 'potent, smelly weed' because few people know what their weed is and where it comes from. Good weed? Must be skunk!).
And this evil skunk is completely different from the supposedly safer, normal weed that your parents (or politicians) may have smoked in their younger lives and therefore you as the target voter who may or may not have smoked weed but are not super experienced or knowledgeable about the subject (i.e. most voters who bother turning out) should FEAR IT. And we will protect you from it! Vote for us! Is it any surprise that these articles have started to pop up now that there's a new election coming up?

To any toker it's just really funny to read any of this crap but that's because we're not the target audience. They don't need to even try to cover up the lies because it's easy to manipulate people's ignorance of the topic, and they've already had decades of propaganda to make people more susceptible to believing it.

  9. The only case where high levels of THC have the potential to cause psychotic episodes is in individuals who already are prone to psychotic episodes, such as those who suffer from severe anxiety and schizophrenia. If you're going crazy from a couple tokes, you may want to consider a psychological evaluation.

  10. yeah my mom showed me this article and i just laughed in her face in my head cuz that woulda been mean cuz i know she cares about me

  11. Skunk is a type of weed. One of the older modern strains known particularly for its high thx and low cbd content. Cbd tends to smooth out paranoid uncomfortable feelings.

its possible for people to flip out on weed, but its not like skunk is new on the scene. Many many modern strains of weed have skunk genetics.
