Hi, been smoking for a couple of years now but just recently got access to concentrates. I got shatter last week and was using it in my mflb no problem but the other day I got BHO oil and it appears to seep through the screen so i want to start doing dabs instead. I've already got a bong that I want to set up to be able to smoke concentrates on it for when I'm smoking in a group, probably use the mflb for shatter and waxes that are less viscous. I've did my research and have a gist of what I need and how to do it but I have a couple of questions. Are the measurements for the nail the diameter of the slot to place it on the bong? How do I know if I need male or female nail? Lower temps are better? Will I need a cab for the nail too to make lower temp dabs more effective? I think that's all the questions I have for now. Any help is appreciated, thanks
1. The nail size depends on the joint size, so yes. 2. If its a regular bong (female) then get a male nail (or just get a universal) or a male to male adapter and a female nail or dome and nail or just a universal domeless. 3.YES. much better, if you get a domeless then yes you will need to get a carb cap, if you go dome and nail then u can just carb with your thumb. Have fun! PS, make sure its real titanium if thats the type of nail you choose. I reccomend highly educated. Also, look into seasoning new nails.
Fixed that for you. To OP any seasoning method that involves water, just stop reading and go to the next one.
Thanks for the informative answers. I'll look into getting a dome or a carb cab. Think i'm going to start out with a glass nail if the smoking shop near me does them then order a good quality titanium one down the line. Also what exactly is seasoning the nail though? I've looked into it a little and already noticed you shouldn't use water but is seasoning a nail essential? Cause you do it with wax, right? Wax isn't too cheap so i'd rather not waste any on that.
You can season with wax, reclaim, or jelly. If you go the jelly rout search for the thread on here that talks about it. And yes seasoning a nail is essential for a proper dab. You can season a nail in the oven using only one fat dab or a couple smaller ones. Works the same with the jelly. Put a little in the nail head. Put the nail in the oven at 400+ for about 45 mins to an hour. Take out of the oven and torch the nail clean. You should be basically ready to go. After a couple dabs your nail is fully seasoned.
What does seasoning a nail accomplish though? and what's jelly? Shame you can use reclaim, I just cleaned a load from my vape and binned it.
Jelly like peanut butter and jelly. I hear grape is the way to go. Seasoning the nail will give a much smoother, tastier hit.
Right I got all the stuff I need last night and was doing dabs. Ended up pointing the flame down and melting one of my bongs hahaha. But I put the nail in another one and we were all good, had one issue though, the nail didn't seem to get red hot or retain heat for long. I bought that and the blow torch out the same smoke shop so it was sold for smoking concentrates. Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks
you don't want to get it red hot anyways, just BARLEY red then let it cool down a little for optimal low temps, also I heat my nail from the bottom of it when using a torch
Thanks for all this info. To save me making another thread, I have another question. What type of bong is the best one for concentrates? Was on grasscity.co.uk and there's just so much to choose from. I saw one for £30 that seemed decent, can't remember which one it is, i'd have to have a look for it.
for concentrates get something small (9" or so and under) with minimal diffusion. If you want a bong style I recommend an 8inch beaker bottom with no added percs or anything and a basic diffused downstem. The smaller/least diffused the better for errl imo. I would recommend a basic downstemless inline perc rig.

yes that should be cool. Personally Im not a fan of those style inlines and donughts buts thats all just because of looks. I was more referring to this style, but I see nothing wrong with the one you picked out, if your a fan of the way that style looks go for it!

personally I like the style of the recycler and would get that. See if you can find a function video of each specific piece and decide from there. The recyclers a bit smaller thus saving more flavor n such. Plus it comes with a push bowl however I wouldn't mix smoking flower and errl out of the same piece without cleaning it before use.

Thanks for all this man, a lot of great info. Don't want to waste money on the wrong thing so I like to do a lot of research. Yeah I would get the one with the dualTi but i've already just bought a titanium nail, the rad 4 in 1 royal domeless, so the bong coming with a nail is a bonus. Just trying to keep costs to a minimum just now. Think i'll go and get the recycler then, I prefer its style over the doughnut one too.
