Any RC pilots in GC?

  1. I was taking a break from building my latest quadcopter, wondering who else in the city likes to build (in)expensive flying machines?
And do you prefer to smash them in to the ground at high speeds, or hang them gently in the tops of trees?
Mine tend to end up in trees.

This is my latest beater, made from parts of a tricopter that liked to spin wildly on its own before launching uncontrollably in to...yes, trees.

Show me what you got GC!

  2. I haven't tried copters yet but I do have a nitro engine plane with about 5 ft wingspan. That thing is fun as hell but I usually just crash into the ground or a telephone pole after a flight as actually landing is way to much work haha.

  3. I'm a horrawful pilot, so I mostly drive..crawl uploadfromtaptalk1424834262468.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1424834281067.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1424834338911.jpg

  4. I hear ya on the landing part. Most of mine are accidental.

Haven't flown in awhile but i still have fun building. I've got a ridiculously zippy 5' nitro trainer, a 35" electric powered foam Ultimate 20-300 bipe, a little electric trainer i designed, a weird thing made from scraps of foam and wood, and my newest project is a 9' 25cc foam plane.

  6. I just started with electrics. Nitro scares the hell out of me. I'd kill someone.

  7. When you splash some 20% nitro onto an anthill, and throw a match on it. You don't see anything, but you hear a gentle pop noise, like popcorn. If you fuel tank breaks while driving/piloting, and the fuel splashes against the exhaust it may burn up your rig.

Seeing as 2 strokers are hitting the ground scene hard now, I'm assuming you air guys have had them for a while, why not try them? I like electric now, its way to easy to blows tires off rims. My Traxxas basher is undrivable on 3s now, but even on 2s buggy tires only last a couple packs. My crawlers/scalers are different, 2s on the big one, 3s on the scx10.

I think I may do a kit of one of these. Leaf sprung chassis, aluminum locked axles----HILUX[IMG]

That's a really sweet truck. I'd love a decent buggy or truck to beat on, but I've already dropped about 1k on various quads, helis and the necessary repair parts this year. I need to let my wallet cool off for a while.
But... Now you have me thinking, a nitro powered multirotor would be insane.

    Waaaayyyyyyy beyond my abilities!

  9. I'm in a bit over 1000$ this offseason, and still need new 3s'sss. But titanium suspension links are so awesome. If I would have got my lathe this offseason, I would be in really deep, like 3-5g. I believe those are nitro plane motors, simple chassis design, I wonder what the gearing ratios, and mechanisms are?
If you ever want land stuff PM me, I can tell you a lot about any of it.

I had my tank bust and dump all over the engine when the crystal in my Rx decided to die and crash my plane and it didn't do anything. I don't have any experience with 20% nitro but the 15% i have will just put the match out if you drop it in, it takes holding the match in the vapors for me.

I thought cars had been running nitro for quite a few years and now everyone was going electric. But yeah, planes have been buring nitro for a long time, and before that it was diesel  :p.

I had the same idea! You want to run gas for better flight time and lower fueling cost though. Four 450 size belt driven heli tailbooms being controlled off the multirotor flight controler would work i think

  11. I don't have any pics, as this was around 10 years ago. What ended up happening was, the fuel tank had a slight crack in it, did not notice, drove 4-5 tanks, on the last tank, did a cartwheel going around 60-ish-mph. The tank split open, and splash against the motor and exhaust, and it lit up, the carb, servo, and exhaust gaskets were all pretty destroyed, the metal was charred, but ok. As far as the matches, yeah a bic lighter works for sure. Matches maybe not so much, a bit of exaggeration on my side.

  12. Wow, car engines must run allot hotter then
