MJCanuck First Time Grow

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by MJCanuck, Feb 23, 2015.

  1. Good Day Everyone!

This is my first grow and have done all kinds of reading to learn this artr, but now as I am 5 weeks into my grow I have all kinds of questions/concerns and was hoping to get some input from the experts out there.

    First, my grow info:

    • 2 White widow, 3 purple Kush grown from seed
    • Grow Tent 4 x 4 x 7 feet
    • 1 Air Cooled 600 Watt MH Bulb on 18/6
    • DWC with 3 gallon Pots
    • Using GH Grow/Micro/Bloom 321,222,123 formula + epsom salts
    • Light on tent temp 73-75 F, light off tent temp 65-67 F
    • Water Temp 70-72 F
    • Running humidifier in tent, RH 60 - 65%
    • Running 2 small fans for circulation and tent is exhausted to outside
    • PH 5.6 - 6.3
    • Current PPM 1300 (just increased today from 900 PPM)

Hope that's enough info, although if I am missing something just ask!

    Now for some pics!

There are individual pictures in my gallery.

One other pic though. My Purple Kush 1 has outgrown the other 4 plants since it sprouted, but I was wondering what the purple stripes are in the picture. They are on the main stem and some branches. Also alot of the leaf branches are a deep purple color as well....should I be concerned?

The other question I have is that they don't seem to be growing in height much, they are bushing out like crazy, but slow in the height? Normal yes/no? Nute problem? Maybe all is OK. Any help, comments, criticisms welcome...how else am I going to learn.

Thanks all, that's enough for now...don't want to wear out my welcome ;)

  2. Another question, how high should the water level be in the pot? The plants are in oasis cubes inside 2 inch nets (I couldn't remove the plants from the nets due to the roots.) and they are in growstones. I have the water level at the bottom of the net pot (the water is touching the bottom of the oasis cube), is that too high? Thanks.

    Hi MJ
Looks like your all set up to me. Now comes the hard part. Time. They will grow nicely I'm sure.
I have the water level just under my pots when bubbles are not active.
Once my air is on it splashes in and around the pots nicely.
Good luck & they look great.

  4. Thanks for the reply Hydro...encouraging words for sure! I thought I was keeping the water a little high, I will let it drop a little.

  5. You're welcome.
As they grow and get huge, I keep dropping the water level down little by little.
I have one in the harvest process now. My water level is just above half the bucket.

  6. I can't thank you enough for the water tip, the girls have come alive! Here are 2 pics approximately 16 hours apart, this is the best they have looked.

    Thanks again Hydro!

  7. I have a couple questions about fimming. How many times can you fim a plant in one shot? Also I am hoping to set to flower at the end of next week, is it too late to fim them now? I did fim a couple of the bigger plants and it seemed to take well and I woulwould like to do more. Oh another one, I wanted to take clones of a couple of these plants, when would I do that? Thanks for any and all replies. Cheers!

  8. You're welcome MJ
    They are getting better indeed.
They're recovering nicely and should continue to improve and get bigger. I would just monitor.
I would take clones when they've recovered.
Maybe another week or 10 days of it were me.
I also take the bottom growth when in flower to clone.

  9. Thanks again, sounds like great advice, will just keep an eye on them for. Have a great day Hydro...Cheers

  10. starting a grow smaller but similar to this, subbed for all the good info and great posts to come :D

My PH is 6.,1 PPM are 1080, water temp around 72-72. Roots look great. The nutrients have dipped as low as 900 PPM.
She is getting about 1/4 gallon of plain water and 1/4 gallon of nutrient water every day.
I am using GH Flora Series and using the 321 Formula. I also added to the current nutrient solution, 1.5 tsp Epsom Salts.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  13. I suspect possible drowning, overfeeding.
I would stop all feeding for couple days & let them recover. Maybe increase fresh air?

  14. So should I dump the nutrients and put water alone in for a couple of days? When you say drowning, what does that mean in Hydro since they are in water, is that the water level being too high? Thanks again for the help Hydro!

  15. I would stop all liquids for couple days. I sometimes water from the top every 2-5 days. Depending on plant/strain and needs its displaying.
I wouldn't let water level drop by more then half. In my trials, yes drowning can occur in hydro systems if you keep the water level to high, not enough air or keep water running on it 24/7. if it were me I would check the water level and drop it down below pots. No nutes, no water. No need to change the res again. Just take some out.
I would observe. Let them heal. Give them more fresh air. If you notice the res getting lower, just add little by little.

  16. Thanks Hydro, I'll give it a try and see what happens, thanks for the assistance once again!

  17. No prob.,perhaps even ease up on the nutes a bit while in recovery mode.

  18. Hello
    Just loaded my pipe

  19. Time for an update. The first picture is a room view and as you can see, they have really perked up thanks to Hydro420's advice.

What are these little hairs that have suddenly appeared on my big Purple Kush?
