Master Kush Organic LED Grow (1st Run)

Discussion in 'Organic Grow Journals' started by Juan Bond, Feb 22, 2015.

  1. Lights
    3 LED UFO'S (109 Actual Watts each)
    Only using one for seedlings.

    Seeds
2 Master Kush (Regular - MKA and MKB)

    Seed Starting Mix
    50% Sphagnum Peat Moss
    25% EWC
    20% Perlite
       5% Vermiculite
    1 tsp per gallon Lime
Watered mix with 1 tsp of mycorrhizae in 1 gallon of water

I was at the end of my bag of perlite and the mix could probably use more.  MKA might be experiencing some problems because of that.  I'm following the LITFA rule right now, and I just continue to monitor the situation.

Roots out of bottom of rooters.  Placed into 4" pots with seed starting mix.  Lowered light to 6" above canopy. Plants on top of humidity trays.  Heating mat is still set to 74.

  5. Monday 2-16-15 (Day 5)
MKB is growing fine with 1 new set of leaves emerging.  Leaves and stem are green.  MKA has a light purple stem and the new growth barely emerging looks to be a shade of brown.  I raised the LED UFO a few inches. 70 45% humidity.

  6. Tuesday 2-17-15 (Day 6)
MKA's new growth looks better.  I am concerned about the humidity in the 40's.  So, I only run the exhaust 1 minute every few hours to bring in fresh air.

  7. Wednesday 2-18-15 (Day 7)
Both are growing, but B looks healthier  (stronger). Humidity gets as high as 80%, but is usually in the 60's.  Smells clean and not musty in the tent.  Added water to humidity trays.

Plants look good and continue to grow each day.  Water probe read moist midway, but the pots are lighter and the topsoil is drying out.  Will check in the morning and determine if watering is necessary.

  9. Friday 2-20-15 (Day 9)
I raised the LED to 12" above to see what reaction I get.  I watered each with 1/8 liter of distilled water.  Top of soil was dry and moisture meter read moist at the bottom of the pots. MKB's leaves are fine, but I noticed a touch of purple on the stem.  MKA's leaves are curling down.  73 (76.1 plant level) 59% humidity.

I rearranged the humidity trays by removing the large one and placing the plants directly on the heating mat. Trying to keep the root zone warmer because I feel they should be farther along. MKB has small dots on the lower leaves that seem to be signaling a calcium deficiency. I know I use distilled water, but is it too early to have deficiencies? I may add a little molasses and mycorrhizae to the next watering. LITFA for now.

  11. Sunday 2-22-15 (Day 11)
The leaves have perked up a bit. Probably a result of the heating mat drying up the mix a bit and warming up the root zone. MKB still has the leaf blemishes, but it has not progressed. 72 63% humidity.

  12. Hey, we really are right on track with each other, huh?  Subbing up to see what vegging with the LEDs does for you, since I'm thinking about going that route instead of the CFLs I'm using now.  You're right on them being too young to show deficiency.  They're still using their own nutrients until those first two rounded leaves drop off.

  13. I thought so. Thanks for the explanation. I'm just trying to keep an eye on them, but keep my hands off (easier said)! I've flowered with a 600 hps before, but it was too much heat for my small tent. The room I have it in is a sweatbox in the summer and a freezer in the winter. I'm going to flower with the LEDs this time and see what they produce. I'm trying to eliminate as many variables (high temps during flowering for example) as possible, so if a problem arises, I will hopefully have a couple possibilities instead of 20.

  14. When in doubt, LITFA. I grow vegetables to satisfy my urge to constantly check on/poke/prod/stare at something. I try to leave the cannabis alone to do it's thing for the most part.

And I hear ya on the too much heat. I only run a 400w, but I've stuffed it into spaces way too small with too little ventilation and had major issues. Good luck with the LED!

  15. Hey did you get your Nirvana gear yet?  Mine showed up yesterday :hello:  ordered 2/15.  I started 4 of the Medusa first, though.  Saving the papaya for this summer probably.

  16. I received my order yesterday as well. I purchased a small greenhouse, so I plan on having a couple of the freebies in there with the vegetables. I don't want to waste my good seed if I don't have everything dialed in. Once I know I have females with my Master Kush seeds and they are healthy, I'll start popping the other strains (Aurora, Papaya and Swiss Cheese).

  17. Monday 2-23-15 (Day 12)
Leaves are drooping a little bit. MKA is doing better, except for a little browning on the very tip of one leaf. Pots are a little light.

  18. Tuesday 2-24-15 (Day 13)
Leaves have perked up in the morning. I added water to the humidity trays. I watered each with 1/8 liter and soluble mycorrhizae. I looked at MKB's roots prior to watering and they are large, white, and fuzzy. I believe I will transplant into a bigger pot with amended soil at the 3 week mark. 73 (76.2 plant level) 60% humidity

  19. Wednesday 2-25-15 (Day 14)
MKA is looking better and seems to be overtaking MKB in height. MKA may be feeling the effects of being taken out of the pot. I will continue to monitor.

Both seem to be doing fine. MKA is slightly taller and MKB has some discoloration on its 1st set of true leaves. Mix is still moist in both pots. I'm hoping for increased growth from both during the next week. 72 (72.3 plant level) 60% humidity
