Cfl AND an LED?

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by steelcity420, Feb 21, 2015.

  1. Hi GC,

I've got mostly everything figured out for what I want to do with my upcoming grow. One thing I'm not positive about yet is my lighting. I've got a 250w UFO style LED and the cabinet I bought comes with a 200w cfl. The cfl has a reflector for it and the box is lined with Mylar. So my question is this- can I use both of these lights at the same time? Should I use the cfl only for veg and then the LED for flower? What combination would you guys recommend?

  2. You should use those lights for their intended purposes (i.e., use the cfl to light the rooms in ur HOUSE and led's to power ur FLASHLIGHT). Buy a real grow light setup (see gavita e series de line....I'm using the 6/750s due tower ceiling height). I'll believe LEDs work well when they WORK and I'll believe CFLs work well when I can grow beautiful plants mid-living room with no air from the sunlight (btw, that's not gonna happen). I just wanna waive my arms in the air and be magically transported to a land where people don't waste their hard-earned money on ridiculously overpriced led setups. **flap flap**

  3. But I u don't want a jerk reply, I would say it pro ably depends on what spectrum ur LEDs r covering. If they r general purpose (meaning, for both veg, blue spectrum, and flower, red spectrum), then u could use them both during both cycles. But air of LEDs specify what color spectrum the cover. If they r only red, or mostly red, I would use CFLs for veg an LEDs for flower

  5. Haha. Yeah. Enjoy ur "killer" bud. Hahaha. Morons.

  6. Not knowing your cooling options or the size of your box, yes you can run both if you can keep it cool. Or you can run one or the other depending on how much power you really need in your box.

    Ignore this ^^^^

    and this ^^^^^^^
And for sure ignore this ^^^^^ Its funny when kids try to act all cool on the Intrawebs :p

  8. Haha. Yeah, disregard my comment....yet, the introductory advice that I do offer (not sure what spectrum ur LEDs r in) is the same question that u lead with....ur advice was just "packaged" much nicer. However, I sure hope u can at least acknowledge that CFLs and LEDs r nowhere near "the ideal" that HIDs are, ESPECIALLY the new double-ended hps products. Ok, just had to point out that ur disregard for my "advice" is somewhat laughable, as u came to the same conclusion: depends on ur spectrum. I just took it a step further and said "cfl and led BLOW!!" The end.

  9. You'd be best to buy a mars 11 400 by the sounds of your space they work all the time and so much cheaper to run no heat to have to run ac ask year to keep temp down. Let us know hiw it goes but 3w doides is as shall as I would put my money into just check out Mars-hydro.com

  10. I have about 12 cfls and I had this little high thought to make things easier that I could put my cfls on a strand of Christmas lights ? Will that work will it be able to take the wattage a have 6 2700k bulbs and 6 6500k bulbs ?

  11. jasongrows is a big jerk commenter lol
    Anyway,
CFL's work great when used properly, just have them close to your bud sights and you will grow nice herbs, like 2-6 inches away.
Cant say much about LED yet as I am awaiting my shipment but I've seen even better results then CFL's following journals on here and you will save a lot on your power bill and less stress dealing with heat issues then an HID or HPS.
    Goodluck

  12. Thanks for the reply! I'm in the middle of the 3rd week and one of the girls is doing fantastic, the other one not so much :( the LED is working fantastically

  13. If seen led grows that look in-fucking-credible. (high wattage high end models)

And even cheaper led (mars hydro)
    Do very nice!

    Cfl is ok.
Its what i currently use but u just dont get the bud that u get from led or hid.
If your doing low wattage small grow and dont expect cannabis cup quality stick with cfl or if u can upgrade to led will be much better.
If u got the money and want premium buds go higher wattage led or hid.

    Heres what i got.
    Im no pro.

  15. Great looking buds. And yeah, I was being a jerk. My bad. All apologies re: prior LED rips, cuz I've "seen the light(s)"!!!!!! Lol. Seriously. There r two amazing LED makers out there now, spydr and spectrum king (preference on the prior) and they r KILLING IT!!! The amount u save on electricity is staggering. And the side by side grows I'm seeing r truly showing how far along LEDs r coming. Awesome!!! I still prefer my 2 double ended Gavitas with a "normal", single ended 1000 eye hortilux super hps in between them......but damn, growers house is making this tough to turn this down!!! Search thru this site for lower wattage stuff but this is where I find best deals on big $ buys, it seems.
