First time 20 dollar grow

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by whereTFamI, Feb 20, 2015.

  1. Title says it all. Coming into this knowing only what I research and help from a few friends.
Started a week and a half ago because I thought it'd be a cool experience. I truly appreciate any help I can get, thanks :)

Going to just list it step by step quick rundown since I started.

Germinated 4 random bag seeds in moist paper towel in a ziplock and it took 5 days for three to grow white root tails. One was a dud.

Planted three in clean cups, watered and left for the weekend in a dark area. What I came back to made me happy as 2 had sprouted about 2 inches and looked fairly healthy. Again, one didn't make it.

Took the sprouts and places them about 18 inches from a 250W infrared heat lamp and constantly maintained proper soil moisture, they grew beautifully in just 3 days.

After the first 3 days, current time now, I. Switched to 4 6500k daylight growing lights placed 12 inches from my two remaining plants which both are about 3-4 inches and have four leaves. I am posting this from an old iPod with an Awful potato of a camera so please have mercy!

  2. Dam that's a lot of stretching...u might wanna lower the lights to about 3-4" away from the plants when the plants get older and become more top heavy and start tipping over cuz of to much stretch a Lil air movement helps strengthen the stem too so keep that in mind to but there living and look pretty good that's my two cents lol

Will bring lights 4 inches away, thanks for the tip

  4. Reminds me of my first grow. I agree with FireOne - get those lights closer, and get a small fan for air movement. You'll want just a light breeze at this point til the stems get a bit stronger/thicker.

What kind of soil do you have in the cups?

A potting mix I bought at lowes with peat moss, perlite, nitrogen, and phosphates, it's miracle grow basically- I've got a fan on with a steady breeze on the plants.

  6. I used miracle grow soil on my first grow cuz it was cheap and I thought it would work fine but it didnt MG is not good at all it has time releasing nutrients in it that mess with ur cannabis plant

Yea those are a bit stretched out already bro. Moves lights closer. You can still work them just do a bit of training
I used mg in my first budget grow before and they came out fine. I'm now doing organic PC micro grow with another grow box I set up in the living room TV stand lol

  8. Put a little more soil in the cups also.

  15. The key to happy plants is lighting. Spend 80-90% of your funds on lighting and you will get fat harvest.

  16. Should I swap my 4 cfls for my 200w? Delivers tons of light and the plants seem to grow much faster. As long as I maintain soil moisture I don't see why not

  17. If it's more wattage then ur current lights I would as long as everything's good!

  18. Much much more, it's a heat lamp so it the only danger would be my plants getting to dry but I have proper air circulation and its open so I think I'll give it a shot

  19. Yikes. I don't know anything about a heat lamp I've been told not to use them because they get so hot stumped me on this one

  20. i bought a t8 ballast that puts out 300 watts for only 64 watts draw, way more power than you have and it only cost me 20 bucks at lowes. Its perfect for clones or in your case a small grow for one or two or however many small plants
