Snowbums first indoor legal grow in coco

1. Hey everybody!

Snowbum here. Yeah, you guessed it. Another snowboarder pothead...  :)  I also enjoy good music, good food and long walks on the beach. jk...

I've decided to start a journal of my first solo indoor legal grow. I appreciate the input of any experienced growers as in the grand scheme of things, I am still a novice. I have done a few grows with partners who have had more experience than me, thus helping me being able to problem solve and help out with expenses. I also have been an aficionado (some may say snob :) and a smoker for almost 20 years. I am not trying to get rich, but trying to produce some good medicine, help other patients and cover the expenses on my house and mortgage.

I will post a few items from previous posts I have made, to get everyone up to speed on my progress without having to start at the beginning. I will continue to post pictures and perhaps an occasional video to keep everyone interested and mildly entertained... :)

A few basics of my grow:

-I got some strains that I love, Chemdawg '91 and Jack Herrer, and a few Stardawgs. I haven't tried Stardawg, but the breeder at the medical clone store recommended it. He said it is similar to Chemdawg but with better yields. I have not seen the finished product so I really don't know..

-I will have 2 flower rooms with 3 tables each. Each table has (2) 600w and (1) 1000w HPS. A decent amount of light indeed. I am vegging with T5's. Each room has A/C and Co2. Closed rooms w/out intake/exhaust.
\n-I'm using Botanicare's Ready Grow Aeration coco blend growing medium, top hand feeding for watering.
\n-I will be using GH flora series base nutrients. I would rather use something else, perhaps something organic but I have used it before and I already have a bunch of it I need to use. Also going on an extreme budget, got most of the equipment used. Also using Dominion Organics Cal/Mag and H&G Roots Excelurator, Anyone think there is any necessary supplements I should be using at this stage?
\nGot all clones and transplanted 6 days ago. 74 degrees and RH 55% I think I may have fed them too heavy of a nutrient solution  :(. Check out next posts...
\nAny input appreciated during any part of the progress...

2. hey!  do this!!  I emailed house and garden.  I asked for a "sample card" or some samples.  o m g they sent me 100$ worth of stuff!.  idk they even paid like 12$ fpr shipping!!  so im in for Hand G, wow cust serv. just wow.
so now mu aqua flakes a and b w calmag.   now i has budxl, roots excelurator, mutlizen anf a and b and calmag.  wew!
good luck!!!

3. Thanks, Greenthumb! Awesome. Guess they are making so much $ they can do that... :)

4.
What's the website address for house and garden?

5. Thank, GreenThumb! I actually emailed H&G yesterday and they replied today and said they no longer do sample packs :( That's great you got it while they still did it!

6. Update:

Transplanted a week ago. Most ladies are looking good, but a few have little mutant leaves and some weird spots (see pics). I was scared that I gave them too heavy of a nutrient solution, so I flushed them yesterday and gave them a half strength solution today (with normal strength Roots Excelurator and CalMag). Also the Jack Herrer seems to be more sensitive to nutrients (see last pic).

I am a bit worried that I am using bad nutrients (got them from a friend and not sure if they were stored correctly). I know you are probably thinking WTF, why is that guy using questionable nutrients, but I'm on an extreme budget and trying to make it work... I currently have 5 gal each of GH flora gro, micro and bloom so to buy all new would be a bit of a hit... I was also worried that I was using too much Co2 (I'm on a closed system), so I dialed that down quite a bit. I have some Co2 monitors arriving next week so I can dial it in.

Anyways, that's the update. Any feedback appreciated, especially on those spotted leaves...

7. yellow tips is too much, interveinal yellowing is usually too little.  wait till next feed and drench it with proper pH nutes w a lil more strength.

waater ooonly when they need it!!.  seems like u are watering a lot. dry cycles are important.  if its moist 1 inch under soil tops then its still ok, wait..  if its super light when u lift it, or droopy, then it needs food/water.
my 2 gallon in flowering need watering maybe 2 times a week!   so just leave em. pH is most important, so if that is stable then the plant will live.

google any questions is my best advice

8. Thanks! Yeah the only reason I watered the day after I flushed is because I thought maybe they wanted a light feeding. I usually wait until the pot is pretty light before watering again.

9. Update:

16 days from transplant. Bought new nutrients and I think that took care of my issues. Topped everyone once. Haven't decided on how I'm going to train them. I may do a scrog and top one more time and do a bit of defoliation in flower, or I may do some mainlining. From what I have read, mainlining adds a bit of time on to your veg but once you are into flower most of your work is done. Since I will have two fairly big flower rooms, less work at that time sounds good. Ultimately I am looking for the biggest yield in the shortest amount of time. Does anyone have any feedback that has experience with both of these training methods? Thanks guys!

10. u mentioned wanting to go organic?

GH has a whole line of organic products, so if ur a fan of their stuff, check em out...it's like a 6-part series, includes the humic acids an kelps an molasses blends an all that u need for micro's...

gotta ask, lookin at ur s/n, are u from CO? i'm out there myself doing a coco grow...

tbh i'm a huge fan of HST + LST...or, heavy supercropping with LST...also, i used to top, but once i tried FIM'ing, i'd be hard pressed to go back tbh...

between folding stems at 90 degree angles an pinning tops sideways to encourage tetriary branches to top out, i can pretty much get a SCROG w/out using a screen...

i haven't done mainlining, but i do defoliate...i just do it like u would a SCROG, shave off the bottom 30-40% of the plant right as it goes into flower...u can keep LST'ing everything for the first couple of weeks in flower, tho i wouldn't do any SC'ing/HST'ing later than a week before u start flowering...

an i may be wrong here, but i thought mainlining was something u needed seed plants for? the main purpose behind the technique is that if u top it while the plant's still producing symmetrical branches u will get a perfectly even distribution of nutrients an growth hormones to both tops...if ur two tops ur tryna mainline are asymmetrical, it wouldn't work the way it's supposed to...

i could be wrong there, so don't quote me...but there's not much some branch folding an tying down won't do...i'll be posting up a grow journal for my coco run here in the next day or two....check it out if u get a chance, u can see what i mean...

12. Thanks Daytonabeach! Yeah I know it's much better to do mainlining with plants from seed, but I did read one great tutorial on how to do it with clones:

     http://www.growweedeasy.com/main-line-clones-nugbuckets

Problem is, it requires even more time for them to recover. After more research, I think I'm going for topping twice and SCROG, with possibly some defoliation. My situation is a bit different, because I'm going for very big plants due to my state regs and the amount of space/light I have. I'm basically doing 8 plants per 4x8 table.

And yeah, send me a link to your journal, always nice to see other projects. It's great what you can learn from other people.

13. Yeah I want to go organic but I'm on an extreme budget right now. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of GH products, it's just what I have used in the past when I have had partners on projects and they basically consulted so I did everything their way. I just want to get the best value and best product and yield, probably like most everyone else. Thanks for the info, though. I'll check it out.

I'm actually from the Pac NW. Washington...

14. Update:

Three weeks from transplant. Everyone looks great except for the one lady that is all yellow. This is one of two clones that were the 'stardawg' strain. Trimmed some lower growth on the larger ones. Been giving them 3/4 strength nutrients and I don't see any signs of deficiencies yet. Everyone has been under T5's but I think in the next few days I'm going to put them under a combo of 1000w MH and 600w HPS because I'm running out of space with the t5's. Topped everyone once and the larger ones twice. These pics are actually 2 days old.

15. Update:
23 days from transplant. Picked up 2 1000w MH bulbs because I don't think the T5's were cutting it anymore. Ultra Sun. Supposed to be almost as good as Hortilux blue but at a fraction of the cost.

Still holding on to that little yellow stardawg hoping she will come around. Everyone else looks pretty healthy. Started dialing in Co2. Raised temp to 85-90.

Any feedback out there?

16. Update. Transplanted some into 6 gallon pots and some into 4 gallon pots 2 days ago, into a coco mix (60/40 w/ Perlite). Put them under (1) 1000w MH and (2) 600w hps. Most look healthy but a few look like they might have a slight deficiency. Giving them Cal Mag every watering so I'm guessing it could be something else. Iron? Any thoughts?

Don't have the $ to buy a Co2 controller so I have the generator on a timer, going on for a few minutes every couple hours. The ppm's are between 800-1550. Temp between 70-85 degrees. I have heard with Co2 you want to maintain 85 degrees, but if I don't have a constant 1500ppm's, I am thinking 85 is high. Also they have looked a little heat stressed with the higher temp, droopy leaves occasionally. Don't think its over watering as I have been letting them dry out between waterings.

Thoughts anyone? Thanks!

17. Update:

Everyone seems to be loving life. They have responded well to the LST. I really think my RH was way too low for veg last week. I know some people swear that lower than 40%, even 30% is ok for veg but my ladies were not liking a 40% average. I got an ultrasonic humidifier (although I think my room is too big for it to make much of a difference), and turned the temp up a bit on the a/c. I'm now running 55%-65% RH and 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit. I've also got more consistency on my Co2 ppm's (700-1500), which I think is helping keeping the RH a little higher. Wish I could afford a Co2 controller instead of going off of a timer...

Res PH @5.8, temp @75 degrees. Started a bit more aggressive feeding, 80% of what the table says. The Jack Herrer had just a little curling on the leaves but the Chemdawgs seem to like it as I was seeing a little bit of Nitrogen deficiency previously. The 3 mothers are looking nice and bushy!

Thoughts, input...?

18. Just noticed this little guy. Not looking as happy as the rest. Fed this morning with a new batch of nutes, just slightly higher ppm's than the previous batch (680ppm). Previous batch was about 640ppm I think. 5.8 PH. Only thing I can think of is overwatering as I can't remember if I felt the pot for weight, I may have just looked at the surface and noticed it was dry...

Thoughts...? Thanks anyone
