what HVAC is a good choice for a 50,000 watt warehouse

  1. I am looking to build a medical marijuana warehouse from the ground up. I would like to know what type of Heating and AC unit I should get and how big. cost would be a nice addition. I would need it installed of course. any information on this is helpful and much appreciated. I  just signed up today in hopes to show a beginning to end of the construction of my Montana Medical Marijuana grow.

    the ware house dimensions are 40W x 80L x 20H

    again thanks for any help!

  2. You need the square footage of every room window and door in your house pretty much..a proper heat load calculation.

  3. I am dealing with a warehouse build 3200 sq feet. no windows.

  4. I dont think anyone can accurately answer this over the web without a TON more detials about the building, like insulation for 1 or what ducts are already in place. Most HVAC companys will give you free quotes on the proper unit your need. When I bought a new furnace for my house I got 3 quotes with 2 saying I needed one size and the 3rd tried selling me one twice the size. So if you have the building gets some quotes.

  5. as a fellow Montanan, welcome to GC.

what type of insulation is on the walls? How thick is the insulation?  Does it have a roof ceiling combination?  What is the insulation on the ceiling? What is the building constructed from? What color is the roof? What is the roof constructed from? Which side of the building is facing south?  How many doors are there? What sides are they on(n s e w) and what size and type are they?  Is this building on a slab of concrete? Does the concrete have insulation around the perimeter? If so what type and size? Will you be ventilating the lights independently of the HVAC?  What is your target temperature for cooling? What is your target temperature for heating? What is the zip code where it is located? Answer all these questions and I can get you pretty close.

A few other items, If you have a contractor come to bid this project and they don't look at and measure each of the items I mentioned, send them away, they are not going to load calc it, they are going to guess and we all know how well that works.

Also be sure your system includes an economizer and an erv system and if the contractor doesn't recommend those items then just like before, they don't know what they are doing. Sorry if I seem a little disgruntled but there are a lot of hacks out there and I get tired of customers getting screwed and having to fix all the half a**ed installs.

  8. As a huge concern, there are so many variables it would be difficult to determine without a proper site inspection. 3200 sq ft isn't a lot for commercial or industrial equipment, and the absolute last thing you want is a unit with too much tonnes of cooling, or btus of heating. Depending on the ducting design, exhaust capabilities and fresh air requirements, you could end up with a decently sized rooftop unit, whether it would be an air handler or make up air would depend again on ducting. This is the first step, the second step, which is my job, is to determine automation needs. You are running a warehouse, so hopefully with a proper sized unit, you would need a minimum of damper actuators placed in control zones. However this would depend on whether it is a constant volume, constant temp system, or a dynamic, load based system. This is without even deciding on what your humidity requirements are, so all I can say is.. Find someone who knows what you need. There are too many variables for any of us schmucks to give you an idea. Commercial growing, I would be calling commercial greenhouse contractors. I've worked with Priva controls, that stuff is outstanding. Just amazing stuff. I haven't seen any of that in a few years though, but as a contractor it was phenomenal. I also worked with hoogendoorn, good stuff as well.
