I need ideas for a simple organic soil mix

  1. I'm lookin for a soil mix usein just stuff you can find outside any ideas?

  2. Easiest way to make good soil from stuff you can find outside is to start composting.

  3. buy a bag of promix, and go find a nice grassy field and pull up the grass and shake the dirt out of them, get an even 50/50 mix of that and the pro-mix and then find some compost form a hippy craigslister, get a box of kelp meal, crab meal, and alfalfa meal.
If you reaaaally want to go cheap (remember you reap what you sow) you could grow in just a 50/50 mix of topsoil and the promix.
But the indigenous soil in most places by itself doesn't drain well enough for cannabis.
the promix is like 40 bucks, topsoil is free, nutrients would be around 30 maybe less, if you you are lucky you may find manure on craigslist too, not ideal but on a budget it works.
but peat and aeration you CAN'T skimp on, or you'll be asking for troubles, more specifically root starvation from too much water retention.
IN my complete honest opinion.... don't skimp on the soil, it's THE most important thing behind genetics of course. But even still the best genetics in the world grown with the incorrect soil? Well...we see pictures of that everyday on these pot-growing forums.. people spending hundreds of dollars on top-notch genetics, and then hundreds more  on the "cutting edge" of nutrients and additives... and their plants curl up like growing basil....
Even organics, happens all the time... too much  nutrients not enough aging time, etc, etc.
It completely boggles my mind how easy it is to grow great herb, but brothers everywhere (and sisters) are just tryiin too hard, and overthinking everything.
Grow some orchids, or exotic violets, bleeding hearts, or deer foot ferns inside. Now those are challenging plants to grow.

  4. Leaves. Lots and lots and lots (and lots) of leaves.

Mix with horse or (and/or) cow manure. Chicken manure works great too. Add all of your kitchen scraps.

Read up on "Dynamic Accumulator Plants" such as comfrey, alfalfa, dandelions, nettles, seaweed, yarrow - etc. wild harvest as much as is possible and mix all this into your pile too.

Moisten/soak completely and thoroughly. For the first month try and turn this pile/mix well at least once a week. After the month is up just turn it/'mix it once a month. Allow this pile to break down until nothing is recognizable.

Add aeration as needed to ensure proper drainage and oxygen penetration. If you can add some Rock dust, or kelp, or neem, crab/shrimp/lobster then do it but it will work without.

    Plant.
