Aerogarden Ultra First Grow *Noob alert*

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Grow Journals' started by Kirufu, Feb 12, 2015.

  1. As the title says it's the ultra (not led) and yeah I'm a beginner.
I got 2 Auto Dark Devils popped in. I'll post pictures once I'm set up

Some questions I have hopefully they can be answered
I've read not to give my plants nutes until after 2 weeks or so I believe because they're autoflowers. Is this true?
Another is when I do start feeding how many ml should I be giving them a week? I'm using advanced nutrients micro, grow, and bloom

  2. Looks like you're in good company, just started an aerogarden grow myself today. You're right about the two weeks, the seeds have enough nutrients in themselves to last the seedlings two weeks, but it also doesn't hurt to add nutrients before then. I used base aerogarden nutrients from the day I planted and my plants loved it, but auto flowers are also more sensitive so I would lay off for now and go easy in a week or two. I used 4-8ml for entire reservoir once or twice a week on my regular photoperiod plants, but would recommend half with advanced nutes and autos.
Are you planning on using extra lights in addition or in place of the cfl's in the aerogarden? From what I've seen, the regular lights that come with the aerogarden are capable of making buds, but not practical for the amount of time and work you're putting into the grow. Really would help to throw in some additional cfl's at the least, or maybe an LED panel if you can afford, wouldn't have to worry about ventilation and cooling that hid's require, especially for small aero grows.
Good luck though, there's quite a few other threads of guys with aerogardens, myself included, so you definitely came to the right place as a beginner. I read these forums for months before I started my first official grow, and learned a shitload that helped me out. These guys have no problem lending a hand and neither do I. Can't wait to see our first harvests!

  3. Oh yeah, try getting an O2 pump for the roots, cheap Walmart fish tank bubbler with air stone will work fine, $15 at the most, and your plants will be noticeably happier!

  4. I got an an extra bulb that's about 1600 lumens I think. I was thinking about staying with the light on the aerogarden and just hang the hood if my plants got too big along with the extra bulb. I'll most likely buy another one soon if this goes well. I grabbed an air stone from a local pet store for about $3 and it's decent size I just hope it's not too much. The pump was somewhat pricey so I order one online and it should be here within a few days. I can't wait to see these grow!

    What do you got growing?

  5. Damn, sounds like you're set! I just planted an auto great white shark today, before that I had five or six bagseed plants, all males, but now I finally have feminized seeds so very pumped for that first pile of nugs! Also have three auto easy bud from royal queen, an auto lemon skunk, and an auto blue amnesia xxl from dinafem that I'm waiting on planting in two week intervals to keep it perpetual, using a kind LED with ultra led aerogarden. Looks like we might be harvesting same time!

  6. You got a lot to look forward too. If started a journal for it I'll definitely sub to it. I started this one to test my limits with the aerogarden for now and hopefully expand it later on. Maybe try to get some seeds out of the next grow I do with colloidal silver.

  7. I did start a journal for mine and for sure I'll sub to you as well. Yeah I've seen a ton of people hating on aerogardens but they really do make a great little weed machine. Nothing huge of course but I think they're capable of meeting daily smoking requirements with proper care, I guess we'll find out.

  8. I think I've run into a problem. What it looks like to me is that my plants growing sideways or going back down ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1423797233.240316.jpg
If this is a problem how do I fix it and keep it from happening again?

  9. You just put your seed in upside down
    No worries tho
Put on some rubber gloves and fix it so its upright in the soil plug thing

  10. You're ok, I thought the same thing when I saw that, it flipped itself back around without me doing anything. Nature's miracles I suppose.

  11. Okay I flipped and I believe it was good just.. the tip of the taproot bent a little but it didn't fall off

  12. Then you're golden brotha

  13. I was going to leave it but I needed to cut the sponge a little more anyway. I forgot to do that before I planted them

  14. I forgot to ask about the light times and pump times.
Right now the lights are 16/8 and the pump is 60/660

I keep my autos light at 18/6 just because I read that time was the best the most.
I'm not too sure about the pump though

  16. Personally, I keep my pump running constantly, 1440/0. The way I see it, the more flow the better.
As far as lights are concerned, any cycle is fine for autos, with 18/6 being the usual choice. just keep in mind that the longer you have lights on per day, the quicker the plant will finish. More light=more growth. On the other hand, it's been proven detrimental to keep the lights on 24/0, which is easy and cheap with an aerogarden, better to leave them off for at least four hours to give the babies some rest. I go with 20/4.

  17. Maybe you can work something out with your light hours to fix your timing issue we talked about last night LEDswag.
If you slow this plant down by giving it less light the new autos you plant will have a better chance at catching up
Especially if you turn the light hours back up once you do plant the new girls

  18. Hell yes! I'll definitely give that a try when the seed sprouts, thanks for the idea, never would've thought of that. Gotta check out the flowering times again and get to math now. Thanks again!

  19. The great white will most likely finish sooner and the new girls maybe start to flush a day or two early but I think if you work it out right you could get them to harvest in the same week maybe 10 days apart

  20. Is it okay to adjust the ph while the water is still in the reservoir?
