Olive Oil/THC content

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Bopplez, Feb 5, 2015.

  1. *First post from a relative novice, so excuse my ignorance* So there's a local outfit selling olive oil at the dispensaries around town. It boasts a THC content of 1500mg per 5 oz. bottle. That's 50mg per teaspoon of oil. At $40 dollars a bottle, 30 doses of 50mg seems more than reasonable. What am I missing?

  2. Dispensary edibles (or at least the ones around me) aren't the strongest. It's much easier and cheaper to make them yourself.
For example, I bought two ounces of shake for $20 and turned all that into hash oil then infused it in half a cup of coconut oil. I made 12 chocolate chip cookies and one will put me on my ass for like 6 hours.

  3. I am in a place where I can't easily obtain edibles, but how does the price of the olive oil compare to 1500 mg in other edibles?

You should also make sure you can choke it down. Depending on how it was processed it may have a STRONG taste.

Per advertised mg of THC, it's at least half as expensive as any other edible. Though I don't eat dairy, so that wipes out most pre-made edibles anyway.

I wondered about the taste but I figure it'll mellow after integrated into a recipe or even a little bit in a cup of tea.

Yeah, it's not yet a particularly well-regulated industry, so the places that don't do lab testing are probably just guestimating. Still, I hear more about edibles testing stronger than advertised than I do the opposite.

I'll have to look into shake. Making my own would be ideal.

Are you sure your math is correct, 2 ounces for $20 and you used that to make 12 cookies?

  7. I've seen it as cheaply as $50/oz. A cannaoil recipe in a book I've got uses 1 cup of herb to yield 2 cups of oil. How much does a measuring cup full of shake weigh? I think I had it figured at 2 oz.A cookie from a batch made with a half cup of oil in 12 cookies would destroy me, but maybe it's not crazy for some. I think that'd be like 250mg THC per cookie?

$10 an ounce. 2 ounces is $20. The quality was pretty low though.
The box of cookie mix was like $3.
I could have made more cookies but I chose to make less so they're stronger
