First Grow with a Bag Seed

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by ShelliGoneBananas, Feb 1, 2015.

  1. OK so I decided to start journaling on my grow. Im currently out of work so i have nothing but time so I figured it'd be good for me.
Here's a little background on me and my experiences thus far with marijuana....
I have always been an outcast and I'm very socially awkward. Don't get me wrong I'm OK with how I am but I do suffer from bouts of depression as well as anxiety. When I went to therapy a few years back I was told I have major abandonment issues. Medication scares the crap out of me and I do not want to be a catatonic zombie. I still want to be me and I feel like benzos and antidepressants and all those other pills shrinks throw at you will rob me of the spark so to speak that makes me me. Anyway... I used to smoke pot in high school but that was just to get high and have fun and be a young dumb kid. It wasn't until the last few years I discovered the amazing medical benefits of marijuana. It was the first time in my life that I had become so passionate about something. I was hanging around some seedy people and doing some not so great things, I didn't like who I was becoming. Marijuana has completely changed that. I can now smoke and go out to crowded places with my bf and not be sweating and panicking from social anxiety. It was like a night and day difference. When i am stressed and cant sleep or eat i can remedy it without all the shitty side effects from pills. I am on an ever continuing journey to educate myself about medical marijuana and spread the word about its benefits. I was so interested in growing and learning all the techniques behind cultivation. So when I found a bag seed I jumped at the chance. And like I said I'm out of work so I was on a major budget.
So anywhoo... Here we go. I'll put all my pics in my next post. I barely knew where to start with this seed but I germinated in a plastic baggy in wet napkins and placed it on the cable box to keep warm. I found a little hydroponics store locally and they gave me a little plug to put the sprout in so it didn't die before I could get my grow box together. Such nice guys in there! They def have my loyalty and I have a feeling they will be a huge help with my grow. So knowledgeable. Then I spent roughly $60 to put together my grow box. I got fox farm soil which has bat guano and earthworm castings so for the time being I skipped nutes. I duct taped two moving boxes together and spray painted the inside flat white for light reflection. I thread two extension cords into the top of the box and plugged in the socket adapters and taped them to the inside of the box to keep them in place. Until i can get more, im using two 100w 1600 lumens CFLs in natural daylight. I got a pH test kit as well. I planted the plug in the pretty purple planter I got and I'm timing her on a 18/6 schedule right now for veg as per the advice of my new friend at the hydro store, and will switch to 12/12 red lighting for flowering when she's ready. She seems to have taken well to the new environment and looks nice and green and healthy. The seed is still attached but I can see the two little helmet leaves or whatnot. I was planning on training the plant by taping down a leaf to the side to get her to grow that way and get more light coverage. I also plan on clipping it to get more stems/bushier plant. (Not sure of the terminology for that so please share with the class if u have that info for me) but Im going to research that more before I clip anything so any knowledge is appreciated. The nice guy at the hyrdo store said that I can switch to flower whenever I'm ready so to control how big she gets, not sure about that so much tho. She's on day 2 inside her new home and like I said she seems to be doing fine. Any and all advice, help, or suggestions are more than welcome! Next post to have pics....

  2. This is how she looks on day 2 in the grow box. Its amazing I could just watch this plant for hours. Its so calming and peaceful to look at. The CFLs are pretty blinding tho LOL. How's she look guys?

    2. Third day into germination. (This is when I got the plug from the store BC time was so of the essence. Her health bounced back fairly quickly tho once in a grow medium)
    3. The sprout inside the plug.
4-5. The environment I kept the plug in to keep it warm and moist until I got the grow box set up.
    6. The grow box being built n set up.
7-9. Day one in the box.

  6. Yes lol I'm well aware. *fingers crossed* But I figured I didn't waste any money on the seed so if it does turn out male i can always look at it as practice/learning experience. Cause if i bought seeds n they were female and i killed them thatd be a huuuggeee bummer. If its male ill be bummed out, but then u better believe ill take my ass online and buy some feminized seeds. Lol. Im just scared to buy online honestly. Is there a site you could recommend that youve got from before? Your babies look great too btw :)

  7. Day 4 and the seed slipped off the top part of the leaf but seems to still be a little stuck on a bit on the bottom. I watered her this morning and that's when the seed popped loose. The soil seemed a tiny tiny bit moist inside still but fairly dry on top. I think I'll hold out another day or two between watering next time and see what happens. Don't want to drown her :p Anywhoo... That's all for now folks. I'm going to try to get two more CFLs in here by the end of the week to hopefully see a little quicker growth. Can't wait til she starts to really grow. I feel so impatient haha

  8. I was also in search and worried about ordering seeds online and been doing some research and from reviews and word of mouth from some friends that also grow, i went ahead and went with a seed company called Sensible Seed Company and Humbolt Seed Company as well I didn't realize how expensive freakn seeds are but oh well its an investment so I got to do it. FYI just read up on the strain ur going to purchase just make sure its the strain u wanna grow out and care for

  9. Hey do you spray ur lady with water and is she still in a dome?

  10. I do not have her in a dome any longer. My temps and humidity is pretty on point without it and as per the knowledgeable gentleman at the hydro store, spraying the plant so little will leave dew on the leaves acting as a magnifying glass, potentially burning leaves. If you have anything against that advice please let me know but for now I figure dont fix what's not broke right?

  11. Day 6 and so glad to actually see a visible stem!

Ur right about not fixing it if it ain't broke lol the reason I was asking if she was in a dome cuz she was still small and tender and she could've used a Lil more time in the dome with the spray bottle treatment lol I usually do the spray bottle while in the dome and two days after I take them out the dome. The guy from the hydro store is right about the mildew but that's wen the plant gets alil older rite now at this Lil seedling stage they like the water on the leaves cuz they drink the water from the top and from the root. And just one more thing if that's the pot that she's gonna be in her whole life then u gotta get ur lights as close as possible with my first grow I transplanted my seedling to early into this five gal. Grow pot which caused stunted growth cuz my light wasn't able to get close enough to the top of my plant just an opinion lol

  13. A week into veg and still looking fabulous and I can see another set of leaves now ::hype::

I was in the same boat recently those are some good choices for seed spots online.. After hours of research I went with @herbiesheadshop for my first order ever and came away impressed and pleased ..I used the super stealth shipping for no extra cost. I just wanted to give another option for a good safe transaction from a newb.. Also you get free seed(s) with every order a win/win in my book. Happy growing

  15. Thanks! I'll check that out.... Super stealth shipping, I dig it lol

  16. Plant is looking beautiful on day 9, pics later. Found some new cfls in the house in soft white 900 lumens. 3 bulbs to be exact, anyone think it'd be a good idea to add them in the mix with the 2 daylight bulbs? Would it affect the veg process at all? Or should I just wait n buy more daylight cfls when I can?

  17. Hey there:) you sound much like myself in the past 3years. I go through extreme social anxiety and have been going through depression. I found out about Mary Jane and was hanging around with shady people and doing some bad things, , so I know how you feel:)

Im a noob tbh but I will help you with whatever I can
All subbd up ans btw I started just one bag seed and it turned out female - lets hope you're just as lucky :)

  18. How many watts r the bulbs u found?

  19. They're 60 watt equivalent.
Thanks a lot. What a nice post. Glad to see were not alone.
