Smoking to relieve stress?

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by inked jester, Jan 30, 2015.

  1. OK so one of my main reasons for smoking is it's ability to relieve stress. At the end of a long day at work and running around with the family and kids I like to sit down listen to good vibes and take.it's like as I exhale I can feel the stress of the day leaving with the smoke. Lol sounds weird but its how it feels. Does anyone else feel this as well or does it work for u differently?

  2. Nothing more relaxing to me then sitting on my balcony in the cool weather with my stress reliever...literally melts my stress away.

  3. Its simply an astonishing herb

  4. Amen to that

  5. Yup. "Inhale the Green and exhale the bullshit" after having a shitty day a blunts the only thing that can cheer me up.

  6. Inhale the good vibes and the good weed

  7. I'm pretty sure 100% of smokers feel this way.

  8. Know what you mean op! Been using weed to relieve stress all my life, including all through highschool.

  9. Yep keeps me from drinking :)

  10. Smoking to relieve stress is better for me than drinking to relieve stress

  12. I am stressed most of the time so it goes along with smoking often while stressed. It aids most with the anger part of being anxious. Although, my stressors do not go away, I get to look at them in a better light. I have been stressed since I can possibly remember, doubt it'll change.

  13. The only time it does not relieve stress is when I skip a workout to smoke.

  14. I love smoking weed, and sure it isn't addictive (phisically), but physologically weed can be very addicting, even more so if you are using it to get rid of bad things (like stress) instead of using it to get more good things. I am usually never stressed even when i dont smoke, so i can tell you to not do that because i haven't experienced how it feels, so it would be hypocritical. What i will tell you is to not smoke just because you are stressed, and not EVERY time you are stressed, because that would lead to you needing to smoke everytime you get stressed, and that can lead to adiction. I have a very good friend which is a stoner like me, but he has some problems at home so he started smoking due to stress, that only led to him fucking up everything even more and getting more stressed, making him need to smoke more. My friend started dealing so he would be able to smoke so much, and when he connected us, always took some of the weed and usually tried to scam us. so yeah, weed might be great for removing stress, but dont make it your only way to relieve stress. the feeling you get of "exaling the bullshit" is pure placebo, because you feel it before you even get high. sorry for writting so much shit but im high as fuck, i hope what i said makes sense.

  15. Just don't get caught up in smoking it to avoid any type of stress. I used to smoke it to relieve stress, and that quickly turned into me smoking to avoid dealing with negative thoughts/emotions, and the mildest forms of stress.

I've gotten past that, and now I can moderate my smoking. But sometimes you don't realize you're going down that rabbit hole until you find yourself at the bottom.

Sorry to be such a bummer, I'm just trying to spread harm reduction! I reread my post and I feel like this right now:

  16. It's interesting how smoking in certain mindsets regularly can lead to a strong psychological addiction specific to that mindset.

I used to always start my day smoking. Know that I'm a plumbing and Gasfitting means I'm doing a lot of hazardous work from controlling cranes and scissor lifts to more common things like drilling and brazing.

I'm the kind of stoner who is prepared to do anything high though I had to stop this morning blazing because of the serious risk I could be putting myself and others at risk and I was amazed at how hard stopping smoking in the morning was even when I knew I could smoke later.

Weed doesn't impair my judgment (have done over 50,000 road kms high) it does effect my concentration and short term memory which are two important things when operating machinery and on construction sites.

Apologies for the tangent on my work life.

  17. I agree it can be good or bad. I have experienced a lot the last few years and I have used weed to relieve stress and induce happiness. It has been a burden and a blessing at times. Weed isn't cheap and it can be hard to come by at times. Weed for me it one of the most important things there is. I realize how that may be misguided but weed has been there for me when nothing and no one else was. I have longed for it and spent countless nights scraping at nothing just to feel high for a minute because I could literally feel the stress being lifted. During the absolute worst time in my life every bowl was magical. And when it wasn't available there was no sleep. It is maddening. And frustrating to know how much you rely on something that has no physical dependence. That is depression. But I made it through and the connection I now have with marijuana and the memories associated with it is one founded on something I can't define. A kind of nostalgia associated with every bowl connects me with those I have shared it with in the past. That is more powerful than thx to me. Sorry for rambling, new poster. Im gonna go burn one now.
