I started this plant (from seed) with a 115W CFL fluorescent just a few inches away from the top for first few weeks. I recently switched to a HPS 250W about 1 foot above it now. Is this what happens when you put a CFL a few inches away from it? The nodes are so close to each other, and leaves are piling up on top of each other...it looks like a mess, instead of geometrical space.... This plant is 4 weeks and 2 days old, counting from the moment, it popped out of the soil. Thanks for your help.
Yes, having the light close will reduce the internode space and indicas typically have shorter internode spaces. Even so, it is very compact! It will stretch out the space between them as it grows, it wont just stay all totally squashed together. Has it been topped or any damage to the growing tip from the lights? It has a funny colour too, might be the light but looks like it could do with something.
