    Dear Blades,

It has come to my attention that a majority of these honourable forums consist of citizens of the states. So, in my intoxicated state of mind this young Scandinavian wanted to ask; what are your stereotypes about us?

To warm you all up I thought about how me and my friends see a typical American, and please don't be offended as this is only for kicks and pre-justice.

I talked to a number of both female and male friends, and we concluded with these stereotypes:
    - Americans are overweight (fat as fuck)

    - Americans are generally very nice and outgoing, and interesting conversational partners as our worlds seem very different

    - American politics are completely insane for us. The U.S left-wing would be considered a crazy racist nazi in my country. I mean, George W. Bush?!?!?!

    - Everything is big, cool and very cheap in the US

    - Americans are easy to entertain.

So, what is the first thing that springs to mind when you imagine a typical european?

    - Neil

I've had one of those. She didn't shave. It was hot. I can still hear her screams of joy yelling "SACRE BLEU AH MERDE!!!!" in my head. It was a good night in Paris.

This is my perception too, a lot of old world racism and old scores that are still unsettling for some. I feel like the level of racism is slightly greater even in GB. I read a few of stories of skinheads going around attempting to patrol the streets to impose their brand of society. That would not happen here, they would get fucked up if there were enough people around and arrested.

Actually I know for a fact Italians are racist as fuck.

  7. I think you are East of me, across a mighty Atlantic Ocean.

My roots are there, being a Heinz 57, but predominately Irish, Scottish, Welch.

I like to say many Clans were fighting whilst my family was fucking.

Having that heritage, there is likely some Nordic blood mixed in as well.

    Glad to meet ya, Neil

A stereotype is a perception, a thought that can be adopted about specific types of individual like for example a specific nationality. But it is cool that you're not fat and all.

  12. I feel like Americans think of Europeans as more sophisticated.

Fun fact: Americans don't have accents, everyone else does. (Joke)

I think you misunderstand my message. I don't form stereotypes and neither should anyone. (I've also been lucky to have been exposed to a lot of locales around the World and many States in the USA).

I understand that due to human nature and even TV, it happens.

It is a trap that can be avoided if one does not form opinions based upon their limited scope, or environment. Just because something works for you, where you are, does not mean it can or will work for another in a different dynamic. Often it's best to find why that was considered a proper response, action, acceptable thingy dingy, etc. Often by observation and silence. (other times you may have to step up and say  "Hey WTF", depends). :smoke:

  15. that they're accents when speaking american sound bad

    I've heard:

French, Spanish, and Italians are dirty/smelly

    Germans are really boring.

    French people are snobby.

More sophisticated or "cultured", and liberal

Better food in almost every country

The rest just get made fun of for their accents.

  18. I am just jealous of most Europeans minus a few Eastern European countries. I am particularly jealous of Scandinavians because of their quality of living and all of their free healthcare and stuff of that sort. I love France as well and I have been studying French for several years now in hopes of one day going there and accidentally forgetting to come home or something like that.

I don't really believe in stereotyping so I can't fully answer the question but I can say that I am totally jealous of many Europeans for all sorts of reasons. I'm even jealous of your latitude! I hate being too far south, I like the north but I'm stuck down here in the southern US where it is way too hot and the winters are too mild. Sure our north gets harsh winters, but your north had vikings so that is a win in my book.

I guess the only 'stereotype' that I can come up with is that Europeans write better heavy metal. That isn't much of a stereotype though since I am basing this off the fact that I generally prefer Euro bands to American ones.
