Advertising Cannabis?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Legalization' started by Applerod, Jan 29, 2015.

  1. Do you think cannabis should be advertised* in places where it is legal?
*(advertised similarly to the way alcohol is)

Personally, I vote no.  Although it would be very entertaining and the creative possibilities are almost endless, it is a psychoactive substance and I generally oppose advertising psychoactive substances.  For instance, the only ones who benefit from the advertising of alcohol are the companies that produce it; the public doesn't need to be told to drink.  We also permit the advertising of psychiatric medications to the general public (in the U.S.) -- which is completely absurd.  But that's just me.  I'm curious what others think.

    Should legalized cannabis be advertised?

  2. I think it should be advertised.  I mean they advertise the shit out of beer and liquor and that stuff does way more harm then good.

  3. I agree that alcohol is a greater hazard to society than a benefit.  Imagine though if magically there was a total ban on advertising booze; would you still think cannabis should be advertised?

If no beer or alcohol advertising was allowed then I wouldn't expect cannabis to be advertised.  But that was my point, I don't think banning cannabis advertising should be allowed when alcohol advertising is going hard.  Besides have you seen any beer commercials lately, full of partying, beautiful women and good music.  Which is fine but it is making alcohol seem like a good thing, when really it can cause a lot of harm.

I believe cannabis should be allowed the same.

  5. No to cannabis ads on TV and radio. Allow print media - just like tobacco. I wish TV beer ads would fade away too.

  6. Why not? Beer and tobacco are allowed to advertise for the purpose of increasing revenues. I personally don't see any damage it could do. It'll probably be weird at first, but even advertisement for strip clubs can make people uneasy, but you know every guy out there is loving it!

I can't wait for the day that I get to see a boring anti-pot ad followed immediately by an awesome, colorful, exciting pro-pot ad.
