Right guys, this is going to be my 3 attempt at growing as the last two didn't go too well (it was a mix between inexperience and bad planning) so I'm hoping for third time lucky. This time everything is on track, the temperature is averaging 28c with lights on and 21c with lights off and the humidity is at an average of 40%, I have the water in the reservoir so it can de-chlorinate and its staying at a nice PH of 5.6. The only thing I am worried about is that I've checked the ppm and its coming out at around 885 from tap, is there anything I can do about that or is it just that there is still too much chlorine in the water? The seeds I have are bag seeds from a friend of mine, he brought two ounces of this "red eye" weed from the deep web and when I was sorting it out with him I noticed a few seeds, so of course I took them all out (I got 13 but I'm sure I missed a few) and geminated 6 of them. I'm not particularly sure what the real name of this strain is but I thought I'll try and grow it anyway as I got the seeds for free! Maybe I'll be able to tell once they flower (providing they're not all males) because the buds won't be vacuum sealed and all squished haha. I germinated 6 but chose the best 4 to keep which are now In Rockwool cubes under the LED in a propagator. When I checked before work (5 o'clock ish) one of the seedlings was just about coming out of the Rockwool so I suspect that its hopefully gotten a bit taller by now and is absorbing some of that lovely 300w LED light! Once I get home ill take some pictures and put them on here so you can see the set up have, I won't bother explaining it now, I'll wait until there's some pictures to look at! Any questions or comments please say!
Right, I've finished work now so I've taken some pictures, this is my set up! I still need to Milar the right hand side wall but I'm waiting for a staple gun to be delivered because my original one broke. This is the view from the outside (it needs light proofing I know but I will do that once the staple gun gets here) And this is what it looks like on the inside! I made this whole grow room my self and although I've had to Change a lot of things around I'm quite happy with it IMO. Here's a picture of how I'm growing the seedlings, I did have a small seedling "room" that had a cfl in the ceiling that you can see in the top right of the wardrobe in the second picture, but I'm buying a new extractor fan in the coming days and it's too big to fit where the original one is so I'm going to have to mount it vertically, which means talking out the top shelf, destroying the "seedling room". They should be okay under the LED though right? And here are the four Rockwool cubes I have my seeds in, as you can see the bottom left one is just coming up! She'll hopefully be out completely by the morning, if she is I'll post a picture here! Here's a picture of the temp/humidity gauge, it's mounted halfway up the left hand wall but can also be stood up on anything flat. And that's it for tonight I guess, if anything has changed in the morning I'll post it here. Any questions or comments, again I would love to hear them!
Day two and seed number 3 has sprouted! The other seeds haven't yet but hopefully will in the next few days. Temp and humidity have stayed basically the same (never below 21•c and never above 30•c) and the ph of the res is now at 5.7. Not really much else I can say at the moment so I'll come back once anything has changed.
Hi guys, day three ( although very early) and seed number 2 has just about sprouted! The temperature is still at 28•c, the humidity is still at 40% and the ph of the water is still 5.7 which hopefully means I've finally sorted everything out in this grow room meaning this should be my first successful grow! I plan on doing the whole grow from start to finish on this thread so feel free to subscribe or even just say hi so I can see if anyone is interested. The only thing that I'm a bit worried about is my ppm meter reads 885 in the res water, im pretty sure that's too high for tap water that's been sitting there for 4 days with the air pump going through it :/ is there any solution / answer to this because so far I have no idea. And I just thought i'd add a little size comparison with my thumb and seedling 3, she's so small! I'll be back when anything changes, if you've got any comments then ask away, I'd love to hear some opinions!
Right, a bit later on in day 3 and the staple gun arrived so I've re-done the Milar in the room and it's looking pretty reflective! It doesn't really show on my camera but it is a lot better than it was before. Also seed number 2 is starting to grow a bit more and is beginning to open up. Just a little bit more! Seed number 3 is still looking fine also That's all, just wanted to give a bit of an update.
Hi guys, unfortunately seedling 2 died last night for some reason, maybe it was just the fact bag seeds aren't great, or maybe it was some thing I did but seed 3 is absolutely fine!? As you can obviously seed I've moved her into the hydro set up, I know it's a bit early but instead of just growing one I've decided to germinate the 4 pure ak seeds! They'll stay in the propagator for around 2 weeks and there is still space for original seed 3 to be in the hydro as well, so I thought instead of killing her, I might as well just keep it until it has to go, I'd prefer not to have a chance of a male so she will have to go unfortunately. But other than that, the ph is still at 5.7, temps are fine and humidity is fine. I'm still not sure why my ppm meter is reading 1080 from tap though, If anyone knows the answer could they please tell me because I've had absolutely no luck looking for it. My top up of Hydroton came today though so they're all filled up to the top And I also took a trip to future hydroponics in chelmsford because it was close by and ended up getting a green light so I can water the seedlings in the dark cycle if need be, and a small bottle if cal mag ( well not cal mag, "equilibrium", never heard of it but it's really calcium, magnesium and a little bit of iron) which if anyone could tell me when to use and how much of it to use, that would be much appreciated! They also gave me loads of free magazines and had a huge amount of nice stock, everything you need really, so if you happen to be near by (I know the chances are small haha) check them out! Anyway, that's about it to be honest, feel free to say hi and if anything changes I'll be back!
Can anyone else see this? It's just I can't seem to find it on my computer and it only comes up on my phone? If you can could you just say hi so I know that it's actually visible haha
Looking good, you might want to move that led up though, they say 13" is good. Check out my Grow Diary http://forum.grasscity.com/index.php?/topic/1353460-ThePuffinator's-Perpetual-Grow-LED/CFL
Tap ppm 885?????????????? I wouldn't use > 200, and don't use that either I start with RO water < 20ppm Hydro is all about control Who knows what contaminated elements the water companies use. Cheapest, probably from china Also, check out my threads in the hydro section I think they will help you
Good I'm glad it is visible, I thought something was wrong because I couldn't find it on my tablet or pc in the participated tab? But It doesn't matter, I'll just use my phone! Yeah I was thinking it's a bit low, she doesn't seem to be showing any signs of stress from it but I'll put it too 13" now, better to be safe haha.
Hi peflora, yeah I thought that might be the case. I'm getting a new tri meter tomorrow from that hydro shop, it's £125 down from £150 and shows res temp, PPM and PH all on a constant display that you mount, hopefully because it's better quality it will tell me for sure that it's my water and not just the tester being shitty, if it is the water I'll have to get a reverse osmosis filter. Are they expencive/worth it? I have no idea how they work haha.
The 4 ak seeds I was germinating have all germinated! They are all in the rockwool under the led (which is now at 13" but not when this photo was taken) in the propagator. They'll hopefully be sprouted by the 3rd, maybe the 4th of February. I was planning on getting a new propagator from that hydro shop tomorrow along with the tri-meter so I can fit 4 of the 3" rockwool cubes in it as well. Original sprout is still doing fine, doesn't seem to be growing much but that's because she's quite young still so I'm sure she'll be okay. I'll be back tomorrow morning if anything changes and if not I'll be back once I've installed the tri-meter!
OP, first see whether you need an RO Euro water might be much better than US water FYI I think you need to keep the meter probe wet at all times I agree with puffinator, raise the light ~ 30" until they get about 15cm tall
Well I'm going to the hydro shop today to get that tri-meter anyway so I'll see what the reading is like off of that. I'll speak to the owner as well and see what he says. I didn't know it had to stay wet all the time? That might be it then haha, I'll setup the tri-meter and we'll see I guess!
Hi guys, as I said, I went to that hydroponics shop yesterday and brought a new propagator and a new tri meter, I took it all home, set up the propagator, started soaking the 3" cubes and then went to set up the tri-meter only to find out they forgot to give me the power supply... So today I went up there to collect the power cable (they also gave me a bottle of "blossom builder liquid" from Becuzz, I'm not sure if its any good so if anyone on here has used it then I'd be glad to know what its like!) And now its all set up. The only problem is that the ppm is still at 1100, I know that that's accurate as well because I brought some calibration liquid (PH 4, PH 7 and ppm calibrator) so it looks like I'm going to have to buy a RO filter. They're £60 for just a filter (not a RO but it should be enough to bring it down to a suitable level) in the hydro shop so I'll get one of them once I'm paid. I'll post some pictures later once I'm home because the pure ak seeds are now in the 3" cubes in the new propagator, they haven't sprouted yet but they should sprout tomorrow I'm hoping. Also the original "red eye" seedling isn't looking too good but that's because of the water quality, I'm just going to keep her alive as long as I can although she isn't looking great, I'll post a picture but I'm 99% sure its the fact that the water is at 1100ppm. I'll be back when I get home to take pictures! As always, any questions please ask!
I've finished work now so I've taken some pictures. This is the blossom builder liquid they gave me, anyone used it? Here's the new propagator with the four soon to be seedlings in. Here's the tri-meter mounted on the wall, as you can see the ph is perfect (now) and the water temp is perfect but the ppm is way too high, calibrated perfectly as well... Here are the two sprouting seedlings, they'll be up by the morning I think! And here's the red eye seedling, not looking great That's it really, I'll be back tomorrow once the seedlings come up I guess.
One of the ak seeds has sprouted, the other two are just showing and one is still not showing but that's the one that was least germinated so I expect that will be up in the next few days. The water temp is still at 19•c the air temp is 28•c, the humidity is 35%, the ph is at 5.5 but the ppm is still at 1110 but I'm buying a filter in the next few days so that should sort it out. That's it really so I'll be back if anything changes.
Looks good! Can't wait till you're all started up Check out my Grow Diary http://forum.grasscity.com/index.php?/topic/1353460-ThePuffinator's-Perpetual-Grow-LED/CFL
Cheers man, well once the water quality is sorted out then everything will be done, I plan to get that on Monday at the latest. I plan to keep the 4 pure AK seeds in the propagator for as long as possible so that they're nice and short but mature, I'm growing up because I don't have enough space to grow out so I need as many bud sites as possible really. I'm liking your thread and I hope everything goes well with the last few days, how's everything looking? Subbed by the way.
Thanks for the sub! Everything is going great I don't seem to have any issues with my soil or anything. I have some nute burns but I'm not too worried about it, it's only on a couple of leaves. These passed few waterings I've been only feeding the phd nutrients and I plan to keep doing that until the plants tell me they've had enough, then I'll flush and continue with the nutes once they're begging for it. I'm impressed that I've even made it this far into the grow to be honest. The thing is to not freak about every weird leaf, every nute burn, every spot, or every droopy leaf. It's really not that big of a deal most of it will correct itself. You just gotta remember that plants are alive and they want to stay that way.
