Unidentified eating disorder

  1. I just want to start this off by saying no, I am NOT anorexic, bulimic, or a binge eater.

I'm 19 years old, six feet tall and 130 pounds. I've only been able to get to this weight by force feeding myself and weight lifting for the past 3 weeks or so. My problem is that I don't enjoy eating most of the time. I will be starving, my stomach growling, but I don't want to eat. Not because I don't want to gain weight. I DO want to gain weight. Nothing sounds appetizing, I hate preparing food, and I don't enjoy the act of eating. If I had the choice I just wouldn't eat food. I'm really sick and tired of trying to force three meals down a day just to still have negative body image.

Really just wondering if anybody else has experienced this, and how they dealt with it. All I have been able to find in my research is people saying "oh wow I wish I had that problem I'd love to be skinny"

It doesn't help that every time I eat with another person I hear "oh wow you eat so much for a skinny person", "if you ate more you wouldn't be so skinny", "how was your food? Do you want more?" "Did you have enough?". It has led me to become very self conscious about my body because others notice clearly.

If you've experienced this, currently do, or know somebody with a similar situation I'd love to hear how you combat it.

Thanks blades, glad to be back in the city

  2. I've experienced this except I take forever to eat or cant finish sometimes.

Personally, it is a bit of a motivation problem I think. I dont eat breakfast but if I did I think it would help me want to eat more throughout the day.

    Skinny struggle is real

  3. I know you've probably been asked this before, but are you stressed? I'm 5'0" and I get up to 106 sometimes when I have a good appetite, which I usually do. But I'm easily stressed and then just the thought of food will make me sick. It takes me 1 day of that to lose 5 lbs and it sucks. I'm trying to bulk up a bit, but it takes weeks of my usually awesome appetite to gain 5 lbs and then just a single bad day to lose all that progress. Dx But maybe that's what it is, stress?

  4. Have you been tested for Celiac Disease?  I had the same problem as yourself, and other issues, and it turned out I had Celiac.  It's very dangerous to leave this condition untreated, and the only treatment is a gluten free diet.  I would recommend getting a blood test first, and possibly an endoscopy to see if your villi are damaged, which would account for being underweight.  Hopefully, you don't have this, or any other disease, and this is just something that will fix itself in time.  Good luck.

  5. I had a stool test about two years ago that turned out I was lactose intolerant but nothing else so I don't think it's celiac although my father did have it as a child

  6. A couple of things, and I am not trying to offend you.

The stool test has been discredited and is not a reliable test for Celiac.  Celiac is genetic.  If your father has Celiac, then you have a much higher chance of having it. Doctors used to think that people "grow out" of Celiac.  It does not go away in adulthood, if your father had Celiac as a child, he should still be on a gluten free diet - no exceptions,   It is still damaging his intestines and could lead to worse problems unless he is on a gluten free diet.   I would recommend that you get the blood test, from a doctor, preferably a gastroendocrinologist, ASAP.

  7. if youve been smoking weed for a consecutively long period of time, and suddenly quit, around 3 days in, you will have a harder time working up any appetite to eat. especially if youve been hitting bong toke after bong toke all day and munching out till ur guts bloated

just the way she goes. took me around a week to be able to eat my normal calorie intake. no matter how hard kids try to glorify weed, its still a drug that will wear out your receptors to the point your body is so used to the THC intake, it begins to stop producing its own cannabinoid Anandamide. this will cause you to feel changes like low appetite, boredom, easily ittirated, lack motivation and an overall lack of energy. it can take max 2-3 weeks for the body to be chemically balanced again. with every high theres a low that follows.

  8. Appreciate the recommendation and I have been thinking about going to the doctor to discuss this problem.

I'm starting to think it's some kind of food sensitivity/allergy.

That being said my father has been eating gluten for the past 40 years (roughly) without experiencing any Celiac symptoms so I'm skeptical about not being able to grow out of it.

The stool test wasn't to discredit the possibility of Celiac but based on what I told the doctor that is what she recommended and found the lactose intolerance (I couldn't believe it I used to drink so much milk!!!) I would think that she would have recommended a blood test if she thought it was a probability, especially since my father had it.

Again thanks again for the suggestions I really appreciate it

  9. You are me man!
I've always been like this, and its basically my number one problem.

  10. If your father actually had a legitimately diagnosed case of Celiac as a child, then he still has it.  The opinion of the best Celiac specialists in the world, as well as the science behind it, supports the overwhelming evidence that Celiac is a lifelong condition and the ONLY way to be safe is to avoid gluten 100%, even if the symptoms are not noticeable.

Celiac is not an "allergy", it is an autoimmune disease.

  11. You should use that herb to your advantage. Maybe you should smoke before meals so that they seem more appetizing for you. Food is very important man, no matter how much you dislike it and if you cant break these habits now, they could get worse the more you age. Stay faded :smoking:

  12.  Yeah 6 feet 130 just isn't healthy, I'm 6'2 185 and I'm still on the lean side.

If you're already lifting I'd recommend GOMAD if you weren't lactose intolerant, other than that I can just recommend making sure you eat multiple times a day every day. My problem with it is I'll like "forget" to eat until I'm quite hungry, you gotta just get into a routine.

  13. You just have to eat foods that you enjoy...pizza, chinese, hamburgers, whtever it is just eat!! Intense weight lifting and cardio has made my appetite sky rocket.

Im 21 and 6 feet tall have always weighted around 130 but since ive change my habits I am lifting more, eating more, gaining more, and enjoying life more

  14. I am exactly the same. It started last year and I've slowly lost my appetite and 17kg so far. Although I needed to loose that weight. It got much worse recently because I'm depressed and going through something horrible. I feel weak and tired and my stomach hurts but as soon as I put food in my mouth I find it hard to swallow. Takes me about half an hour to eat a banana and some days that's all I've eaten.

Today I've managed to force myself to eat a bit more. I had half a sandwich and a teeny bit of lasagne but that's it. I'm going to the doctor next week and I think you should as well.

  16. You need to get tested for Celiac as well.  At one time, before Celiac was discovered, the only thing that was recommended for small children that had what is now known to be Celiac symptoms, that were unable to eat, or were sick a lot from food, was bananas.  They were called "banana babies".  Even after Celiac was identified, for many years the medical community was under the impression that children can grow out of it, and return to eating gluten.  They now know that this was 100% wrong.

  17. You sound like me....I think I'm just depressed. I don't eat at all anymore. I want to gain since I'm 6'0 130lbs. But the thought of cooking food sounds exhausting and then I have to put it all down my stomach which is in pain when I eat. I feel like throwing some of it up. Probably when I eat a bit too fast or because my stomach's shrunk.

I think my biggest problem is that no one ever taught me how to cook or what to cook or anything.

The only thing I can remember eating yesterday was a nacho bellgrande from Taco Bell with a large Baja blast soda. I'm very malnourished and don't know who to tell or what to do.

I looked up some symptoms and it sounds like I might have it....I just don't have a doctor that I can have an understanding conversation with to ask if I have this.

    • Delayed puberty   - I didn't start growing any kind of facial hair until about 17.
    • Growth problems - I don't know what this is relating to but I've always been pretty tall.
    • Diarrhea - I get this a lot, always thought taco bell was to blame.
    • Abdominal pain and bloating - I get this a lot. Always thought it was because my body was hungry. I'd go and eat and feel even more pain like I'm about to shit my pants. Sometimes I'd have to shit, other times it'd be really stinky gas.
    • Weight loss I haven't reached over 140. Ever. 22, 6'0", 129lbs.
    • Fatigue I always thought this was because of me not eating a lot so a lot less energy. I don't feel any sort of motivation anymore. I don't have that drive/energy to want to get up and do shit.
    • Irritability - I always thought I got like this when I would not smoke for a day or at some given time of the day. I feel real stressed out a lot.
    • Depression - Goes along with my stress. I think I've fallen into a really deep hole of depression. Don't know how long I've been like this but I've never been checked by a doctor for anything other than Asthma.
    • Dermatitis herpetiformis (itchy skin rash that looks like eczema orpoison ivy) My shins itch like a mother fucker and my waistline itches sometimes also. But mostly my legs are what itches and around my junk.
    • Mouth sores Don't really get these at all except sometimes when I take my asthma medicine and don't rinse afterwards. But then again, sometimes I don't rinse it out and don't get sores and sometimes I don't rinse and do develop sores.

  19. I understand your frustration with doctors, so I would suggest going on a GF diet for a week, TOTALLY gluten free.  In about a week you should notice the difference, in your body, mind and spirit.  Then, if you want, go back on the gluten for a week or so and find a gastroenterology specialist and get tested for Celiac.  If you have Celiac, though, and are gluten free for a while, the test will be negative, so bear this in mind. Good luck and keep us informed.

  20. I would not even bother with going GF free and go straight to blood test and a blood test is only one test of many. If you come back positive I believe they need to take a sample of the lower intestine. We had a training on celiac disease and the trainer made it clear that you should not go GF free until after being tested. I also believe celiac disease causes you to have tooth enamel erosion so your dentist might be able to help as well in diagnosis.
