First try at Organics

Discussion in 'Organic Grow Journals' started by Popop, Jan 27, 2015.

  1. After countless hours spent reading up on organics here in the forum, I finally got the courage to start a grow. Soil mix:
    Peat moss
    Ewc
    Bagged compost
    Perlite
    Lime
    Kelp
    Alfalfa
    Plant tone
    Rock dust
    Bat guano

Seeds from Oregon Green Seed- Sugar Cookies

    400w MH/HPS
    5gal bucket
    Scrog net constructed from PVC

Day 33 from seed/ Day 3 since start of 12/12 light schedule

  2. Welcome to the Organics! I hope all goes well with your grow. Keep us informed of your progress and bring us any issue if they develop. I think you will find that using organic methods will result in a LOT fewer issues in terms of nute lockout and ph. You may also be surprised to see no real quantity drop off using this method and your bud should be sweeter and more fragrant. Good luck!

  3. Looking good, Popop. Keep it up! Organics rocks! So does Oregon Green Seed!

  4. Update
Been a little worried about the slight leaf tip curling. Gave a kelp/alfalfa tea couple days ago that may be the cause. Going strictly water only from here on out. Any advice is much appreciated.

Got 2 other Sugar Cookies and 2 Blue Snow Dog here temporarily until my Veg tent is ready. ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1422759808.496610.jpg

  5. Update
    Day 16 of flower
From what I can tell things are looking good. Thought I could be overwatering so I cut back to every 5 to 6 days. Smell is not overwhelming and seems to be under control with the use of a glade plug-in. I removed the scrog net to rotate the plant, seems to have served its purpose. 6. Great looking plants man I was thinking bout doing a vertical scrog with my stativa pheno NL5s I would reconsider the tea idea and start slow with the mix then build up!

  7. Looking good man. Any updates?

  8. Sorry for lack of updates. She is putting on frost nicely. A lot of the bigger leaf tips have curled down since my mistake of giving a concentrated kelp and alfalfa tea about three weeks ago. I believe I was also over watering. Some of the lower fan leaves actually had some burn marks from the tea dripping on them. I now feed straight water with some molasses when the pot feels lightweight. Hopefully she will fatten up some more in the remaining weeks. Here she is at day 28 of flower.

  9. She looks good. You are probably right on the over watering but it doesn't look bad at all. Looks like it will turn out nicely for you.

  10. Have you checked the PH? I always check the PH of my solution before I add to my plants. Most of the time my nutes drop it into an acceptable range but sometimes not. If I use my tap water (PH 7.8 - 8.0) without adjusting I get problems.

  11. I use distilled water and never check the ph. Didn't think it was necessary with organic soil.

  12. beautiful lady you got there! How many cups of amendments per cu. ft. did you use, if you dont mind me asking?

  13. Thanks, I think I used 3cups per cu. ft.

  14. I thought maybe that was the case. My soil started with 2.5 cups per and it turned out to be a bit hot for OGS genetics. Deb, the breeder, said that her strains contain a fair amount of landrace genetics which prefer a more lightly amended soil. So i cut mine with 33% straight base and it still came out a bit hot. Im getting some of the same leaf curl on one of my plants. It doesnt seem to be affecting the quality though. Maybe the yeild a bit. My new soil will only get about 1.5 cups per cu ft as per clackmas coots recipe.

Anyways, sorry for rambling, have a great day. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing this finish.

  15. Im kinda puzzled because I started from seed in this mix. The problems didn't appear until I started to flower. In veg the plant seemed happy and green.

  16. Interesting point. All i had during veg was leaf curl from the one and the other grew perfectly. Only until about 2 weeks into flower did the leaf tips on some lower leaves begin burn on both plants. Im just now starting to see some slight tip burn on some of my colas. Not much but noticable. Maybe they can tolerate hot soil for a while but then decide that theyve had enough. I wish i knew for sure. You started a seed in that mix? Hmmm, now im confused, lol.

  17. Yes I started all my plants from seed in the mix. It cycled for about two months before I started. The more I read the more confused I get.

Here is the second Sugar cookies and Blue snow dog I have.

  18. The fan leaves are fading fast. I've been feeding water with molasses every 3rd day. She is so frosty and the buds are getting fat.
