Kellogg Garden Organics Patio Plus Premium - Safe?

1. Hi peeps, I am planning my 2nd indoor grow and hope to start in a couple of months when it starts to warmup around here, norcal.   I am currently researching premium soils, looking at the usual suspects; fox farms - ocean forest, happy frog, roots organic, and kellogg patio plus (although not a favorite, it has been recommended on some other grow forum).  My previous grow had a less than spectacular yield; I used black gold soil and did not add enough perlite to the mix so it compacted and water flow was very slow thru the medium. I also believe I got carried away with the nutes, So I intend to improve with the next one.

Here's a youtube video of someone comparing with these soils, (except kelloggs and black gold). It's a 3 parter and I am showing the part that shows defiences with the fox products. Interesting. It might help to watch all 3 parts.

Now with the Kellogs patio plus, their website says it's OMRI listed.  So I checked the OMRI site and this is what I found.

"May be used only in cases where soil or plant nutrient deficiency for the synthetic micronutrients being applied is documented by soil or tissue testing. May only be (i) applied to land used for a crop not intended for human consumption; (ii) incorporated into the soil not less than 120 days prior to the harvest of a product whose edible portion has direct contact with the soil surface or soil particles; or (iii) incorporated into the soil not less than 90 days prior to the harvest of a product whose edible portion does not have direct contact with the soil surface or soil particles."

This like any other soil requires a water only period......to be omri certified you have to wash the crap out of it for 30-90-120 days b4 claimed on omris list as organic.

3. I'm updating with the company's (Kellogg) response to my concern about OMRI's listing as, "May only be (i) applied to land used for a crop not intended for human consumption."

"OMRI has listed Patio Plus Potting Mix as an approved organic soil with the restriction you noted based on the way the vendor of one of our ingredients processes the ingredient.  The vendor has changed the process, which is what we are using in the product today.  We have submitted the process revision to OMRI and they are reviewing it so the restriction can be removed.  We anticipate the restriction to be removed in the next few weeks, if not sooner."

I then asked if this "new process" product was out yet and how to tell the new from the old.

"The process has already been changed for the last month.  Based on how quickly Home Depot and Lowe's turn our product, (they order very week), you most likely will be buying a product with the revised ingredient process."

I suppose a build date on the bag will help me determine which is which.

4. Just talked to a legal friend. ....do NOT anticipate a ban lift....(sometime) this is a memo usually meant for consumers to buy more with no intention of the company on actually becoming omri/organic cert.

Might be right might be wrong you choose
