I don't know if this topic has been made yet. I'm not very good at using the search thing. I typed in "guns" and nothing similar came up so I thought I might make this. Anyway, let's have a debate about gun control. Please try to be sensible and not get too personal, but if it ends up like a Youtube comment thread, that's okay too because that's always hilarious to read.

I am pro-gun control because I think that if it is harder to get guns, then less people who shouldn't have them won't have them. If you truly believe you deserve to own a gun and you're a responsible gun-owner then you shouldn't have much to worry about. Gun control doesn't necessarily mean "take away all the guns forever and ever fuck you." It just means more regulation on who gets to have a gun and how easy they are to obtain. Just my mildly-informed opinion. Feel free to argue otherwise.

Im very anti gun control and people talking about it sickens me.
America is based on freedom. Saying I "don't need" certain firearms is contradicting everything our country stands for.
What am I supposed to do without firearms? At that point I cannot defend myself very well at all.
Then people say "call the police instead"...
Excuse me? Tell me again how reliable law enforcement is these days...
The moment you take firearms from law abiding citizens you put everybody at risk. These worthless gang memebers are still going to have automatic weapons. At least let me be on the same level as that trash.
My opinion, im  very opinionated on this topic, besides firearms I'm a very peace loving person. no hard feelings intended

EDIT: yes some regulation is needed, alot of people should not own guns.. haha

  3. Do you think there is enough regulation, too much or not enough? I don't think there is enough regulation.

  4. Depends on what state you live in. I live in Illinois, so I say plenty of regulation.
A FOID (Firearm Owner Identification) takes several months to recieve after applying. You need this to buy any ammunition, even some pellet guns. There is also a 3 day waiting period upon each purchase.
And here you can buy rifles at 18 but not handguns (used in most small shootings) until 21 so a person is more matured before they think to go shoot someone.
I'd say in my state the regulation is plenty, I don't pay too much attention to what it is like in other states though, too busy working and smoking :)

I don't believe in any gun control or regulation of any kind for any reason what so ever. Criminals do not follow laws so the only people suffering from these dumb ass laws are law abiding, good citizens. I agree with everything tokey said in his first post except that last part about some regulation. I don't even believe in doing a background check. It should be solely up to the seller as to whom they do our do not sell a gun to. No licence, no waiting period, no background checks, definitely no registration and nothing should be banned. I would like to see full auto belt fed machine guns sold just as easily as a bag of chips.

  6. And yes, I would also take that as far as zero regulation on hand grenades and rocket launchers. None of the government's damn business what I own or buy as long as I don't harm anyone with them. Preemptive laws have no place in a free society (which, of course, America is not). Punish the crime if it is committed and only a real crime with a real victim. No victim, no crime.

  7. In world war II, a man named adolf hitler took control of Germany.

Thanks to secret police, spying, and.gun control (the things happening in America), Germany was blindsided with a travesty that could no longer be prevented.

When ever I ask people why they think such a tragedy cannot happen in America, even though such tragedies happen all the time all over the world, they always respond, "the people wont let that happen."

How will the people prevent this without guns? How can a disarmed people defy the government? By voting? What happens when they round up a specific race or political group? Its happened before in America. Once Communists were rounded up. Once it was Japanese people.

All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.

We have the second amendment for a reason. Its not for hunting or self defense. Its for protecting the people from the government. Its to ensure the government can never become a dictatorship.

As soon as we give up our rights, we will no longer be able to prevent it.

And this iisn't just about gun control.

In Russia there is a man named Edward snowden. He exercised his freedom of the press to expose war crimes, and rights violations by the us government; however, he signed away those rights to work for the government, and the documents were "classified". So now he is a traitor.

I would argue the mere existence of classified documents is illegal and violates our first amendment right.

How can we have democracy if the people don't know what the government is doing? Its impossible.

Wake up people. Nothing good will come of these things.

Edward snowden warned us that the nsa data is primarily used for law enforcement INSIDE the USA. Its not about catching "terrorists". Its about securing power.

As we speak the dhs is hoarding hollow point rounds, arms, riot gear, the works. We already have camps set up. The police are becoming militarized.

Its clear the government is getting ready for mass riots. Why would they do that? Do they know something we don't?

  8. Why would you want to own hand grenades and rocket launchers, other than to use to kill people?

  9. don't you see though. This is a distraction

Who are those people who shouldn't have guns? School shooters?

Yes its a horrible thing, but so is the Holocaust.

Statistics show that gun violence is the least common form of violence. Basically its mathematically proven that gun control will not save many lives.

Is it worth the risk? Are you willing to open the door to another Holocaust just to prevent a few gun tragedies?

    Have you seen red dawn?

  11. Probably saw the movie, what does it have to do with this?  Sounds like fear mongering.

I mean, come on - you really believe that ANYBODY should be able to own this shit, even the criminally insane of which we have plenty of in this country?

  12. How would I protect myself from people who obtained guns illegally for bad reasons?

Gun control just restricts people owning a gun legally. Someone that wanted to commit a crime can obtain an illegal firearm easily.

There's an argument "if there was no gun in the first place, there would be no illegal guns". While I agree, it's a bit late for that.

  13.
Some people feel they should own the same implements of war that the US government does. And why should they not be able to? The level of spying by the NSA is elephantine. Besides that it has now become acceptable for whichever political party controls the executive branch to use taxpayer funded programs to spy on political enemies, which includes ordinary people who get involved in politics. Besides that our community police are largely corrupt and will lie in police reports to seem credible and give cause. But there are also a shocking number of people who claim abuse by police in which they had surrendered and were kicked or beaten in some way. I could go on about the injustices in American government and law enforcement, but if you live here and are not shielding yourself then you will know, and if you are denying such then you may be delusional. American society, government, and law are all in a downturn, we cannot even get the tobacco lobby out of Congress.

Tobacco offers nothing to any nation except disease and costliness. We are becoming impotent to action or even to having a voice. Our country is literally being run into the red, if this were a business and we were the board we would have long ago fired those in-charge. What is going on here? Why are people not protesting immense pollution, non-renewable energy, toxic chemicals in consumer products and elsewhere in manufacturing, impactful money for education that still does not require a 10k loan for university student per semester, need I go on?

  14. You can print firearms in a 3D printer.

  15. None of these things are a good reason for allowing open ownership of grenades and rocket launchers to everybody.  It's just going to make things worse to legalize weapons like those.

  16.
It is in the US Constitution though, the people have the right to rise up when government is no longer interested in the greater good of the people and becomes destructive to that end. Why should they not be allowed modern weapons to retain their freedoms?

  17. We have ways of dealing with these issues that do not require guns, bombs and rockets.  It's people with attitudes like yours that make the whole gun lobby unappealing.   Things change naturally, sometimes it takes voting, boycotts, demonstrations,or acts of civil disobedience, but your method is almost always worse.  This is not 1775 anymore.  The government of the United States can be fixed without the type of overthrow you believe may be necessary.

  18. who gets to define insane?

Fact is if the government does become a dictatorship, you are going to wish you had some actual weapons

    -yuri

  19. You really think the average person would be able to obtain grenades and rockets even if legal?

Its not like there will tank warfare on the streets...

These are weapons of war, and eventually the war will be between the government and its people. That's a statistical historical fact.

Its only a question of when not if
