my fritted perc clogs easy

  1. Hey everyone. New to this form and got a question. I purchased a fritted perc oil rig the other day. It hits great but gets clogged so easy. It's super annoying since its brand new and I pretty much have to clean at least daily if not more. I've read that this is an issue with these type of pieces. Kind of wish I did the research before I bought one. Lesson learned. Anyway I was looking at the reclaim catcher adaptor piece for it. Do you guys think this will help keep it for clogging so easily. I was thinking that it might prevent some of the oil from getting into the piece but I don't want to waste any more money if it's not going to help. I'll post a few pics when I get home so you guys can see it. Any thoughts would be awesome. Stay Stoney

Watsup man. First off yeah that adapter will help but not really that much. The vapor is still gonna go through the frit so theres gonna be claim regardless. Secondly I have a frit myself, a Dave Goldstein. He is the original creator of the fritted disc and mine does not clog everyday, I clean it weekly but after about 3 days youll notice a slight difference in the pull. Maybe the problem is that yours isnt a Goldstein and a knock off from another brand that doesnt make it so well. LMK if this is the case because that might be the problem!

    cheers!

Thanks for the response. I looked at daves website earlier today when I was searching around. They look cool. I'm pretty sure my is a knock off since I picked it up from the local smoke shop for like $80. I was just kind of hoping maybe that adaptor might help. I'm going to try and empty the water when I'm done with each session which might help.

Yeah man a 80$ fritted inst very reliable. Replacing the water after each session will definitely help it stay clean.

  5. heh fritted.....

  6. Have you tried smoking out of it with warmer water? I do that with mine & it helps a ton. I do believe I learned that trick on these forums. I hope that helps..

  7. This is an issue with all fritted disk pieces OP. ^^ this, and keeping the rig clean to begin with should keep the piece usable. Even the fancy DG get clogged. They just aren't made for oil pieces. It breaks the vapor into to small of bubbles and it all condenses in the perc. So much of your oil is going to waste.

  8. Yea I think it's just a really poor design. I cleaned it crazy good I'm going to see if maybe the shop will give me a break or something. I'll let u know. Thanks for all the advice. I got a rig we converted but i just wanted something clean to use. Guess I'll see

  9. Hurray I got the piece super clean and the dude changed it out. Hurray happy smoking days and I called out sick today from work. Best day ever.

  10. I have to agree fritted discs and oil rigs are a waste. I already see clumps of condensed resin in my triple honeycomb bubbler I can only imagine how much it deposits in the cracks of a fritted disc.

If it makes you feel better the easiest way to clean fritted discs is with boiling hot water and Oxyclean. I can easily clean my triple honeycomb rig to like new status just by putting a teaspoon of sodium percarbonate and boiling water. Oxyclean is only 50% sodium percarbonate so adjust as necessary.

It'll bubble and clean everything all on its own without having to scrub or shake the piece. It's very safe and effective as long as you're piece is made of borosilicate glass.

Since it's so easy I just end up cleaning my piece after every session. It's as easy as plugging the inlet holes, putting 1 teaspoon of sodium percarbonate in and pouring boiling water into the bongs. When it cools down and stops bubbling a simple rinse and let it air dry.
