  1. my laptop is an HP running windows 8. im pretty positive its a virus not sure what kind. the internet will pop up but once i go to a website the page will freeze and i cant exit the page. my volume no longer works. it says sound is disabled, so i try to enable it and i cant. im no longer allowed to open my trend micro antivirus so i downloaded AVG it removed a few but its still tweaky. i cannot do a system restore or factory reset. itll just say preparing... for hours. i use this laptop to do school and now i can barely do anything. the control panel wont even load but i can access it (open a file within control panel, then just click back to control panel and it works.) sound like any virus you guys have heard of? let me know asap please and thanks!

  2. I was gonna say system restore or factory reset but since u cant do that then lol I'm all out. You can always hit up bestbuys geeksquad, maybe they'll give u a fair price? if anything I say keep trying the system restore/factory default. I went threw hell an back with an old laptop it took prob over 5hrs to get it back to its factory settings but it was worth the time an effort cuz I fixed it. I had it goin good for prob 8months after until it f*cked up again. Then again the laptop is like 8yrs soo you might have better luck!

  3. Restart your computer in safemode and run your antivirus

Google search from your phone how to start windows 8 in safemode if you need help figuring it out

  4. Run it in safe mode and download Malware Bytes and do a search. If you find anything that shouldn't be there Google the name of the malware, sometimes there's a specific removal tool for that malware.

  5. Two virus programs constantly fighting each other and hogging resources and you think viruses is your issue?

    Uninstall Everything
    Update Everything
    Run root kit mover
Run Virus scans outside the OS (Called a bart PE disk, Loads XP from a disk so u can get rid of nastys)
    Defrag hardrive
    Install free antivirus
    install free antimalware
Install ad blocker on chrome browser
    Tweak windows to run faster
Disable unknown pluggins on your internet browser
    Reset internet setting and cache
Fix registry errors with free program.

    Research the best freewares

    Goodluck.

  6. in other words OP, just buy a new damn computer.

lmao jk, that will take you all day though @OP.

  7. I would remote log in and do if for you if you dropped 42.00 in my paypal. <--Hope im not breaking rules. Or sent me some genes.

  8. I used to think that an antivirus alone was enough to keep my pc in top shape, or that I could pick up the slack manually like OG said. Eventually something gets through or the registry gets slower and slower, lost a lot of data with factory resets.

I've learned my lesson, always run malwarebytes and advanced systemcare pro (registry maintenance) in addition to Norton antivirus and regular backups. All 3 of those programs compliment each other as nothing is 100% secure, not uncommon for one program to catch something that another one missed. No conflicts and I've been using them together for the past 5-6 years now, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1

Sorry if that doesn't solve your problem, but it's good advice if you want to avoid them in the future. I'd do what barcode said, safe mode > virus scan. If that doesn't work then factory reset and let it sit overnight, could be in the middle of working while you're looking at the blue screen or whatever windows 8 does (haven't had to do a reset since Vista, but I think it displayed a blue screen and said "preparing" the whole time until it was finished, t'was a long time ago) - last resort of course.

I know a lot of people with fucked up laptops including my wife. Hers is a year old and runs virus protection only. (I have multiple licenses but she doesn't want my help until something goes wrong, not worth the headache) Good luck man, hope you fix the problem. :bongin:

  9. Windows 8? Hit windows key and C together to bring up charms menu. Hit the power charm and bring up the menu to restart shut down. Etc... hold shift button and press restart. Keep hold on shift and a menu will pop up on restart.
    Hit troubleshoot,
    then reset my pc
    . Remove all files.
This will give you a full restore. Viruses will be gone and drivers reinstalled. Use avg free and malwarebytes to monitor for viruses in the future

    Why not?

You don't need a disc to do this, just a usb stick.

Some malware can infect the BIOS.

  12. Or the GPU. Or the RAM. Or the CPU. lol...They can embed into anything really. Why it's usually better to always buy new memory.
