    Hey what's up Blades :gc_rocks: !

For my college graduation present I've decided I'm building a new PC desktop for gaming/normal usage! The only problem is....... I'm a console gamer and have no idea what I'm doing here......  :confused_2:

However, a couple of my buddies have put together some builds for me, but I've decided to come to you guys as well!!!

So here's what I have so far.......

any suggestions, comments, opinions, ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks Blades!

  2. I'm like... 35% certain you dont need a 750W power supply, probably more like 500W is what would be necessary

also, @ windows users... Isn't microsoft offering a free upgrade from WIN 7 to WIN 10 for the next month or so? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy WIN 7 and then get the free upgrade?

other than that; maybe consider getting an SSD in place of an HDD.. also.. what monitor are you gonna get

Mega overkill bro.  But if that's what you want you have a sweet PC.  I understand though.

4770k unnecessary for gaming.  It will give you little to no benefit over the  i5 4690k, 4670k.

4gb video card for 1080p gaming? Seems mega overkill.   That kind of vram is probably unnecessary for 1080p gaming but I don't know I really haven't upgraded, overclocked or hardcore gamed for close to a year or more now. That's quite a while in the PC world and I don't know your standards. Some people need every single setting maxed @ 60 fps for every newest and latest first person shooter release.  I still doubt that would require 4gb vram for 1080p.

970 series already?  Damn I sold my 760 Hawk SLI only about a year ago.

The PSU is also pretty overkill but not a bad idea to have some extra headroom with expensive GPU like that. I'd switch it to a corsair or silverstone.  EVGA psu's are notorious for pooping out.

If it were me I'd put that savings into a nice aftermarket cpu cooler and SSD, upgrade the motherboard a little and you can overclock.  Should work out to a similar price.

The 970, although a good card, isn't really 4gb. You might want to throw in the extra money and go with a 980 or 780TI. Get a dedicated SDD for OS.

  5. There's a 850W in my pc right now, no complaints and i'm running mid range equip  :hello:

But hey, if u got loads of fancy outer buttons ans lighted fans with a hydrocooler thing then ur gonna want the extra juice.

  6. get a 500 watt psu it will allow some space for upgrades cost a good amount less and not use any extra power thus heat the cpu is a bit overkill but meh it's a pretty good price for it so id keep it the gpu is a vary good gpu but while it has 4 gigs of vram only 3.5 gigs are able to be utilized at top speed you will be hard pressed to find a game that will even use 3.5 gigs of vram though at least at 1080p and i would personally say an ssd is a absolute must have otherwise id say it looks good i doubt you will find any parts for much cheaper

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hXqjgs i added an ssd and changed the power supply it's a bit late for me to go video card hunting and like i said that is a VARY good card but it is worth a second look here is a good video on it

Personally I think a 500 watt is pushing it a bit. I checked out your build and it looks like the estimated wattage is at 333 watts. I'm not sure if they calculate for overclocking (probably not) but if you're going to want to push your CPU and GPU to their absolute limits, I'd spend the cash to have that extra headroom.

It's only a difference of 25 or so dollars anyway. When you're spending 1250 dollars, is saving 25 really that big of a deal? You can max any game these days with a build for less than 1000 dollars anyway.

I'm no expert. But components are expensive! A power supply failure can cripple your system, and it's not worth taking a risk just to save 25 smackers imo.

  8. Do u need cpu cooler and speakers? That looks almost identical to the first build I went with until I swtiched over to AMD because Intel can be like 3x the price.

DO NOT BUY THAT VIDEO CARD!!!!  Nvidia is being SUED because of performance issues regarding their bizarre memory architecture where 3.5 gigabytes out of 4 work fine until you tap into the second section (the last .5 gig) and then the performance suffers.

You can always go first generation Maxwell (chipset tech.  900 series is second iteration of Maxwell) with the 700 series.

  10. Id go with AMD. I just started growing pot but ive been doing electronics repairs, especailly pc and game systems repairs for about a decade and love building pc's. My sites of choice are Newegg Tiger Direct and Ebay. Some good planning and you can have yourself a piece of sex that costs roughly $450- $700 and competes with next gen. Over time and modding and upgrades you'll put em in the dust. Ill put you together a few parts real quick to give you an idea! :D

Get a nice mobo/ cpu combo and take note of form factor ( in this case ATX) $200

    Now some RAM! $20 - $160
    This board supports: DDR3 2133 MHz (O.C.), 1866 MHz, 1600 MHz, 1333 MHz, 1066 MHz, 800 MHz
Browse ebay. My first build i got 4 gb gaming ram 1866 mhz for 20 bucks.

    A Video card! $150 -$250

2 gb gddr5, good starting point! if you want to upgrade go with this one, i have it in my current rig and its amazing. Little more pricey.

Power supply! go with 600 W to start. $45

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7906003&CatId=1483

Casing.. Form factor comes into play here, i have an ATX (full) mainboard chosen so your going to need a big enough case to fit. $30

Hard Drives! IMO, i use an SSD for windows and my main files and a regular HDD for data, non intensive games. You WILL notice a BIG difference. This is a 100% advantage the pc community has over consoles. After using an SSD to game on a nice rig, consoles seem useless.
    SSD: $59 120 gb

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=9160976&Sku=OCZ-102558186

    HDD: 500 gb $54

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1083959&CatId=2459

Thats roughly $600 for a nice rig. This isnt including peripherals! i use a TV for my monitor, and have so much pc shit laying around i didnt have to buy mice or keyboards etc. Kb and mice combos go for 20 bucks so not too bad, a fan is $6 SATA cables are $3, dvd drive is like $15.

Sorry if i forgot anything, this is a guideline and dont advise following it to a Tee. Look around a LOT and browse all different sites. Like i said i got my RAM for $20. I hope this helps man!  :bongin:

  11. Oh and i forgot, to calculate Power consumption use this >>

    http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

Plug in your shit, the parts i gave come out to 385 watts. You are supposed to add a 30% buffer for safety, so 500 watts. I still say go with 600w. Ive upgraded like crazy and my 30% buffer still doesnt reach my 600W cap.

  12. My system specs:

Os: Linux Mint 17.1 64bit Cinnamon edition

    Memory: ddr3 PCI 1600 16gb gskill

    CPU: Amd phenom 2 x6 1100T

Video card: Nvidia gtx 980 4gb.

    HHD: 4TB hybrid

This rig plays everything I throw at it without any problem.

I would grab a small SSD along with that mechanical hard drive. You will notice a huge boost in speed. Also you don't need that power supply, go with something that is 650w or even 700 watts but there is no need for the 750 watt.

  14.
    No shit it does.

I can't into Linux. Teach me.

  15. Definitely use an SSD for the OS drive! Noticeably faster!
