    So here's my situation,

My partner and I are moving into our new apartment on Thursday the 22nd. We've been spending the last couple of months weighing the pros and cons of the different types of growing. I've finally figured out what electricity costs would be for us, pretty low, so now we're just trying to figure out what to grow in.

Originally we were in a completely different apartment and at the time we were either going to make a small grow box or we were just going to use our closet itself. Since then, we've decided on two possible options.

The first is to spend the extra money and buy one of these grow cabinets http://www.cabinetgrow.com/ (specifically either the Medicab Micro or the Yielder Max). These seem like great options because they come with everything required, they have good temperature control, they keep out smell, and they would be low on the electric cost. My problems with this tho: For the Medicab Micro they say that you can grow 1-8 plants 18" in a .5 gl grow bags. That'd be fine, but from everything I've read I've heard as a rule of thumb you should have a gallon for every foot you grow. So, obviously, that size wouldn't be good enough for these plants.

The second size up, The Yielder Max, says
    • 1-4 plants in 2.5 gl pots - 2.5' tall
    • 1-16 mid size plants in .5 gl grow bags - 2.'5 tall
In addition it says it can grow 1-16 small plants in the bottom. So, with this, I have the proper gal pots needed. But here are the dimensions 62.5"x24"x24", I've looked all over and from what I've noticed all you growers tend to grow a few feet and then try to branch out horizontally. My fear with this grow box is that it's tall enough to grow four plants length wise, but that for high yields I won't be able to branch out. Thus, in my opinion, it wouldn't give off a good yield.

This then switched me over to the thought of buying a grow tent. Still expensive, but nowhere near the cost of the 2,800 yielder max. I've noted that I can get a 4x4x5 or 4x4x6 tent for not too much money. The next option would be just buying the lights, fan, filter(I think), and whatever else.

This poses another question. I need a good amount of fresh air to make its way to the tent, and I also need the bad odor to be expelled.

Here's how my setup would go, and tell me if this would work.

Our bedroom is reached from a living room door. You walk through the bedroom door and are faced with the bedroom, windows, and a walkaround to the bathroom door. Open the bathroom door and it's a clear line from the bedroom/bathroom door to another door that opens right before the front door of the apartment (hard to describe, sorry). In the bathroom, however, is our closet. Here's what I was thinking. The grow tent goes in the closet, I leave the closet door open and leave the bedroom/bathroom door open. I filter the bad smell/heat into the room via the fan and a carbon filter. I leave the windows in the room open, direct line to the bathroom closet. Then either the fan from the tent pulls fresh air in, or I put a small fan in the bedroom facing from the window to the closet. This fan then pushes fresh air from the window into the general direction of the tent. Would this work?

Next. What size tent would you recommend. I want something big enough to grow upwards a bit and then outwards a bit, as I stated above. Would a 4x4x6 be good for this, or would you recommend something bigger? I'm hoping to grow 2-4 plants with a harvest of about 2-4 oz (maybe 1-3 if I can't get that much) a plant. What would be an optimum size tent for this desired result?

Next. Should I go with an HPS light setup, a CFL light setup, or an LED light setup? Some people have said the LED setup can replace an HPS light setup (though I'm not sure if I believe it to be that powerful). I know that the HPS setup is, in a sense, the most ideal for higher yields. But should I wait to go with an HPS in the future when I'm a little more experienced, and spend the first couple of grows with an LED or CFL (again which do you find better) setup? Or is an HPS setup easy enough for a beginner to handle.

Finally, any security tips? At our apartment complex the maintenance men and landlord have permission to enter at any time they wish without notice.

We can close the closet when we leave, but then there won't be any fresh air blowing in.

Sorry for all the questions. To recap into an easier question. What size tent would be optimal, will that airflow method work in your opinion, and what kind of light setup should I use? Or, would it really not make a difference between growing in a tent and growing in the cabinet?

Thanks for any and all help guys, sorry if this is in the wrong section.
