I'm searching for backyard container ONLY grow journals. Any links would be appreciated so I can learn and not ask redundant questions

How I became an "advanced member" is a mystery to me! I don't know shit about growing MJ but I'm learning fast

  2. I'm In the same boat. Saw this journal and thought it would be a good idea to see what transpires!

  3. I have a couple of years in a row, used 5 gallon to finish the first year, then 40-60L tubs the second year, I prefer the 40L tubs, less frequent waterings, stronger and larger - which depending on constraints may / may not be an issue for some...

I was late getting them out both years but they still finished decent, plus in containers it is easier to re-position as necessary, it can blend in with an arranged garden etc, fairly low maintenane I would think.

But I still have soo much to figure out and its tough because I can't get a baseline for the shit I have grown!

I do both in-ground and containers on the patio.. Here is the build of my 17 gallon SIPs,( self irrigating planters ) By far the best way I've found to container grow in so cal with our super dry conditions..

The white sheets are FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) I had left from another project..

While I did make both 5 and 3 gallon the small 3s are all but useless.. Here is the 5 gallon version broke down..

The white buckets are food grade from Lowes and I cut down the lids for the support floor.. You can use smaller 1/4 inch vent holes instead of the 1 inch ones and screen I used.. The center bottle is slightly taller then the rest so it shoves through the plate a tad and has slits in the sides to let water in but keep the soil from spilling out.. The inch and a half fill pipes have a notch on the bottom end not shown.. The overflow hole is drilled just below the support plate to allow an airspace of about an inch between the water and the plate..

  6. Nice setup Brass. I will probably regret not doing it this summer if I have to leave them unattended for any length of time

  7. Just about all my journals are pots only. Of course pros and cons to pots.. The biggest pro definitely being the fact that you can always move them around - security / sunlight / etc reasons. The main disadvantage being watering and drying out quicker than ground. That being said the bigger the pots the less watering, but harder to move if needed.
Short grow season here in NE and don't really start anything indoors so 5-10-20 gallon pots do fine for me, smart pots and plastic. Coco seems to like the pots though, I do a mix of reamended/recycled soil cut with 5kg brick of coco. Mulching any in pots helps a lot too.

Brass has the right idea ^, plenty of youtube videos explaining it all and many alternatives etc.   GL!
