Question about Probation.. (sucks)

    Hey guys, new to this forum but not too new to marijuana. I have a question and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in this area. I have been smoking for about a year and a month, and until last fall I have had no legal problems with it. I'm an intelligent (I think) guy, I go to a prestigious liberal arts college studying physics, and have had no criminal record.
     
    Last fall, though, when I was on the way back from a Flatubush Zombies/Underachievers concert in Minnesota, Me and my friends were stopped by cops on the way back (this happend on a highway in Ames IA) It totally freaked me out, as all my smoking has been in dorms and lowkey up till this point. It was a stupid ass decision to get in a car with any type of illegal drugs in the first place, but I REALLY wanted to go to and enjoy the concert, so I went along with it. So obviously we had weed in the car (my friend took posession charges for that, and wasnt read his rights), and my other friend got charged with a DUI even though she passed a sobriety test (they made her do it like 3 times). They both went to jail, and unsurpisingly my 3rd friend (the only caucasian gentlemen) was the only one not charged with anything. I had a small pipe in my backpack, and the officer let me know that that's a simple misdemeanor in Iowa.
     
    So long story short, I went to court, (was the flyest mf in there, shirt and tie, had to stunt) and the judge, since it was my first offence, gave me the option of deffered judgement. For all those who don't know, that means that I was allowed to pay a civil fine for the pipe, and then go through a year long probation period that then upon completion, the simple misdemeanor would be expunged.
     
    So I met my PO at the Center for Creative Justice in Ames, IA. Cool guy I guess. He told me that my crime was the simplest type of misdemeanor, and that he said if the meetings go well and i'm "doing everything I have to on my end", then he could have me finished by early may as opposed to like next december or something... He didn't mention anything about piss testing then. So then we set up the next phone meeting for a month later, and I called him on time, and now turns out he said he wants a urinary analysis to make sure I'm staying clean or whatever.. smh. Now I haven't smoked since like december 18th, so its basically been a month since then, and i'm a pretty thin ass dude, so I'm sure I'm clean. But smh my friend bought me a new pipe, and I really wanna smoke (I do it for many reasons, namely helping me with my Social Anxiety, and Generalized Anxiety, Depression, and ADHD as well as trouble sleeping.
     
    He said it would be given randomly in the next month or so, and I should get in contact with my college's health center to notify them so they'd get me in to do the test. I'm clean, i'm not scared of that and it will just be that much longer since i've smoked last when i'm actually tested... but I guess my question is what is your guys experience with this crap? Do you think after the first test if i'm clean, he won't test me again? Would he be likely to test me twice? I have like the simplest case possible, and If i'm totally clean the first time, then hopefully he will be satisfied.. Will he REALLY go through the costs and trouble to test me again? smh. Do they often do unannounced tests? He DID tell me about this one, but just that it would be random. Do they do some sort of random ass test at the end of probation to see if I was clean all the damn way through? Isn't that more work and money on their part? ugh this is the SIMPLEST case.. This country's laws are ridiculous.
     
    Sorry for rambling guys, but what are your insights and experiences with the law? Anyone from the Iowa area or have experience with this particular probation center or in genereal? Should I be worried about a second test, or should I be cool after the first one? Thanks guys.

    Well you could just straight up ask your PO whats going on with drug testing..but You should probably be worried about a second test.You have two choices really, you can go through a short 1 year of probation worrying about dodging drug tests that you don't know when will be dropped on you, experimenting with detox's that don't work (most of the time court probation will drug test you once a month, or totally at random) and Possibly get yourself into much deeper shit than what you're in now. Or you can just not smoke for a year. Those both suck. I'm currently on 1 year of probation that ends next month, and i haven't smoked but a few times during the summer (lucky break, was out of state) but other than that.. I haven't smoked in 8 months. I'm super excited about having a really low tolerance and just smoking again. If i could give you any advice it would be to just do the year of probation sober, it sounds horrible I know, but it's better than worrying about a drug test,(which btw takes all the fun out of smoking) you'll feel much better once you're off and can smoke without limitations.

    Too long, skimmed it. Every county and PO does testing differently. your best bet is quitting at least until you know your PO's tendencies.

    they don't have to read you your rights to arrest you, only if they want to question you.

    Yeah. that's true I suppose.. I so don't wanna blow this :/ but again he said would shorten the period to 6 months, as if more people successfully complete probation at his center, the better that makes his center looks and the more people the court will send to that probation center. So bascially if i totally comply, he said that he could have me done by may 6th. which is better than nothing. thanks for the input :) i dont wanna fuck with detox programs. why would I wanna smoke when i'm paranoid as hell in the back of my mind about testing? :( ughhhh yeah best of luck to you though. Hopefully this shit won't be that way for much longer.

    about my white friend? I don't see that as racist, i'm half white myself. I just find it interesting how he was literally the first person out the car and back in. Like they didn't really see him as a threat. He wasn't charged with a thing. I just find it interesting how the 3 black people in the car were all hit with charges. I'm not racist dude, if its that comment you were referring to.

    I mean, my friend's on probation, and they test him every month. I would ask your officer, but you're screwed if he says, oh no, this is the only test, and it's not. There's cool cops, and there's scummy cops. And remember, cops can legally lie. I don't know why he'd lie about this, but who knows.
     
    Back you your problem though, I'd stay clean until May, if you can. If you're not being watched when you take your tests, then you could probably stay clean until your first test, and save a bottle of clean urine for tests that might come up later. Hopefully this is the only test you have to take, and you can start smoking after that.

    Were you guys smoking in the car? Did you guys have paraphernalia strewn about the car? If you answered no to both of these questions, how did you get caught? 4th amendment?
     
    I've never been on probation so I can't give you input on that. Just curious as to how you got caught.

    That's just about the definition of racism.....why did you bring it up (race).  Did it matter?  Was he holding?  I think one of us is a bit confused on racism.

    she was speeding 100 mph smh. I woke up to sirens behind me.. she was irresponsible and reckless. forgot to mention that part.-

    Ah, that makes sense. Speeding over a certain point goes from a traffic violation to a crime I believe, which I also believe would give the police probable cause to search the vehicle, which is what I am assuming happened.

    Dude. the definition of racism is discriminating against someone upon the basis of skin color. I absolutely despise racist people and racism, and for you to think that me pointing out racial profiling/white privilege in action is racist, then you my friend are the one that has to check the definition.

    Yep yep. that's how it went down.

    I just dunno If I should straight up ask this guy how often the testing is /if this is my first and only test or not, because then maybe he'll suspect that I'm trying to smoke and it will make things worse.

    Okay, I mean yeah can I really trust him to tell the truth about that? Not sure if I should straight up ask this guy how the testing will go down. Might raise his suspicions whereas if I didn't and the first test comes up clean, which it will, then I'll be cool. Not too sure.

    They questioned him alright. but I think they questioned him prior to arresting him, so idk the damn specific mechanics of the law.

    How much urine is required for tests? I don't even know what a drug test looks like tbh. idk if i gotta save a damn gallon or a little haha. again never been down this road before.. stupid.

    In all honesty you should just man up and not smoke. I heard there was some grace period on probation where your first text will slide if you fail, then you get clean after, but I don't know probation specifics.

    For a fool-proof way to not test positive/get in trouble, just don't smoke. But if you want to bend the law, I'm pretty sure only a small cup full of urine is used for urinalysis. I mean, it's supposed to be what you piss out when you take the test.
