Bought a Jeep today?

  1. So after weeks of searching, I finally said fuck it and paid cash for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport.

Yes, I understand it's not a Ferrari but I got the vehicle, title, and tax for around $4,000. I'm a broke college student.

So. I was told it's a "straight line" and not a "inline 6"

What the fuck does that mean? I'm under the impression that means it's a 6 cylinder but I could have heard the dude all wrong.

  2. its a 4.0 I6 aka inline six.

some people like saying straight six. same thing.  Congrats on the purchase!

  4. There is no difference between an "Inline" engine and a "straight" engine. The cylinders all point up. Generally imports are called "Inline", domestics are "Straight".
There are also "V", "Boxer", "Slant", and "Flat" variations of the 6 cylinder engine.

  5. It's the bmw m52 a slant inline six or just a straight six?

  6. Just sold my 96 Cherokee that I bought in 97. 190000 miles and the vehicle was one of the most reliable I've ever owned. Keep up on maintence.. oil changes etc and it should serve you well.

  7. a proper "slant six" is a MOPAR engine and it slants at a sharper angle than the BMW six's. the engine in a 89-91 honda Prelude has its engine "slanted" at a reverse angle of 19 degrees to allow for a super low hoodline.

if the pistons are arranged in a linear fashion, then it would be referred to as such. "inline," "straight." "tomato," "tom-ah-to."

  8. You're giving me flashbacks of a certain Dodge Dart we used to "borrow" from my buddies dad all the time. It was forest green, annoyingly loud, and not all that fast.

ya but Ken Block started with a Raptor. thats already superior to the Cherokee. but i suppose one could modify a Cherokee to best the Raptor. like Block did with the Hoonicorn.

i wonder if theres a race series where that 4WD Mustang could race. that wasnt rally. maybe in the Continental GT series. or something like that. i want to see it perform on a circuit track. go beyond the Gymkhana carporn videos, which are cool in their own right. but i want to see that thing go around Laguna Seca several times.

  14. Pics? Show your new baby off.

The straight(inline) 6 is a very reliable engine with lots of high mile examples.  A V6 has 3 cylinders aligned in a V shape. The straight 6 is just that, 6 cylinders in a row.
