Plant leaves curling up and browning... Any ideas?

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by ScottChief, Jan 16, 2015.

  1. My seedling started to curl up about mid week 2 and brown at the beginning of week 3. My seedling is 4 weeks old now and has been ocean forest soil. I haven't used any nutrients up until now and have 150 watt cfl.I started with the light about 8 inches away but have now moved to 16 to see if the issue was having the light too close. Doesn't seem to make a difference. The temp varies from 70-85 f and humidity stays between 40-50. I also have a two week old seedling that is fine. I was told at the hydro store to start using cal mag because I was using bottled water which doesn't have calcium. Didn't want to use tap because of the chlorine.. Any ideas?
    Any help is appreciated Thanks!

    nutrient burn

could be a cal mag deficiency

    ffof can be too hot

keep an eye on new growth

  3. Sorry I made mistake I'm using fox farms light warrior which I was told has no nutrients in it.. Is this true?
If so, it couldn't be nutrient burn.
I have watered twice with cal mag over the past 5 days but still has gotten worse as more leaves are starting to curl and brown..

  4. Youre overwatering, causing the roots to suffocate. This also happens with fungus gnats, as roots get damaged.

This will almost always be the case with the splotches you see on leaves.

Also, plants are not animals, more is usually worse. Dont water with cal/mag or anything unless you ask here first, otherwise, you end up with probs. let them dry out, the cfls can take days to weeks to dry out plant soil, due to lack of heat.

  5. Poke is probably right, but I also see signs that you ph may have spiked. Are you checking ph as you water?

  6. I think the ph was the problem... It was around 5 for some reason. I fixed it now with some ph up. Also anyone good at sexing plants? It's about 5 weeks old now and it looks like a female but not 100 % sure.
    Thanks!

  7. So, ph had dived instead of spiked ... it looked kinda like Fe deficit to me. Glad to hear you got her sorted. As far as sexing the plant, it appears to be to early, you'll have to wait a few more days, maybe a week.

  8. Okay cool thanks man. I'll wait and see. Also I have a 6 week old tomato plant which is obviously a hermie. Will it pollinate my female cannabis plants? I really want to get this answered before I put them under the same light.
    Thanks!

  9. Did you do something to hermie the plant yourself, maybe by accident? Or is it a genetic hermie possibly?

  10. Hey guys,
Everything seemed to be going well for a while until I started having a problem with bugs (gnats)... I have been using go gnats to try and get rid of the eggs and the yellow sticky pads to get rid of the adults. My leaves on my plants are going yellow and I'm not sure why. Can not enough fresh air be a problem? Any ideas??
    Thanks

  11. Heres my fungus gnat battle

    FUNGUS GNATS:
Neglect of my veg room means my kosher kush plant all but died. And by neglect i mean i didnt check them for 12 hours. It may or may not survive, time will tell. I was super bummed about this. I removed the dome a day or two too soon, and it kinda dried and shriveled, but roots and a few leaves are alive and im optimistic to a fault.

The fungus gnats are the worst here in January. Theyre in the BILLIONS outside, due to the farm land. They fly around my house, And are superbugs. No treatments work on them due to resitance to the 7 million + tons of pesticides they dump on us with airplanes every year.

To save what clones they havent decimated, ive ordered pyrethrin. Theyre killing my confidential cheese clone,  so i took a cut from the sickly plant today.

You name it, ive tried all treatments, but without toxic poisons they thrive.

Pyrethrin will destroy microbial life but i wont use it on flowering plants, only those in veg, that way i can bring back microbes with teas later.

Again, ive tried every treatment, but pyrethrin is the only thing that makes a dent. Its nasty stuff too. I dont like using it, but all of the below treatments failed entirely.

Heres what ive tried to date:

-Letting plants dry out til the point of near death
    -DE
    -neem oil
    -neem meal
-Top layer of sand (doesnt work because theyre in all parts of the soil)
    -Top layer of perlite
-BT (both gnatrol and mosquito dunks-combined)
    -garlic juice
    -Spinosad
    -Yellow sticky traps
-Sliced potatoes to catch larvae (they wouldnt take the bait)
    -Nematodes
    -Hypoaspis miles (predator mites)
    -Lavender sprays
    -Cinnamon on top layer
    -Pepper juice
    -No Pest Strips (kills adults)

The only thing that works here in the central valley is pyrethrin, synthetic pyrethrum. I went to order it and to my surprise, amazon said i ordered it last year at this exact time, same week, which means im at my wits end every january and i just forget.

The high humidity of my area (80%+ most of the time) combined with trillions of tons of manure means theyre unbeatable, just treatable, even if you kill them all, by bug bombing the house, you step outside and catch a hundred in the face and eyes. Dont open your mouth, yuck. Its like mosquitos in florida swamp area.

You cant even set a cup of water out or theyll be in it in minutes. As such, ive let most of my house plants dry to the point of near death, partly on purpose, mostly because i dont have any energy due to lung infections and fatigue.

I made sticky traps and havent caught one. The adults dont survive in the room due to NPS (dichlovoris), which is why ive caught none at all.

Ive made a little tutorial to show the process of diy sticky traps and will post that soon. If i didnt have NPS in the rooms no doubt id catch many. In the flower room the dehumidifier catches a hundred every 3 hours or so.
