Organic growing, taste

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by RecStoner, Jan 13, 2015.

  1. I grow in soil and use foxfarms oceanic soil with the trio of fox farms ferts, tiger bloom, grow big and big bloom.

A friend said it has a funny taste, even among different strains.

Considering the soil and ferts I use, what can I do to improve the taste in general?

  2. In my opinion for a good tasting smoke the buds need to be properly flushed and cured

  3. i agree with the cured part, but this is the organic section, why do you feel that it needs to be flushed?

  4. Well if using bottled nutrients I would suggest you flush.. especially when growing in coco. Thats just opinion though

  5. And that is why I was checking. I am using organic products but yes they are store bought and bottle based. I can see if flushing helps. It's worth a try.

I was also thinking that maybe the soil was lacking something.

  6. Sorry man. You are not using organic products. Fox Farm likes to trick you into thinking so. This is why you're plants taste funny.

  7.
FauxFarms has been foolin' folks! Go on!

  9. So flush very well then. Got it.

  10. No.
Start over with an organic soil.
Flushing doesn't entirely make scientific sense.

  11. Well, going forward, YES but as for my little guys already underway, I'll flush.

I've been meaning to work up a good soil, just no time these days.

  12. 15 days in from germination in Fox Farm Ocean Jungle. I figured since it has so many organic compounds in it that i wouldn't need liquid nutes...right?! I'm using 3 of the large bulbs and 4 of the smaller ones right now

  13. This is my first organic grow.

  14. Fox farms is ammended enough to last you 6 weeks at most and then it needs either chems or a good amount of top dressing and teas.

It's not really organic until you fully commit to organics. You are on a good start and if you commit to it there is a lot of learning ahead but I promise you, it's fun!

  15. Coolio, I appreciate everyones help
I love reading Jerrys post... brilliant guy

  16. Big bloom is the only organic based nutrient from fox farm. Tiger and grow big are full of chemical chelating salts like Edta that force feed your plant bypassing the natural order of  a living soil setup.

unless you have an enormous soil-grow, other than reading up on the basics the actual soil mixing can be done in literally hours, it's not hard. the hardest part is researching enough to understand what you are tryin to accomplish.
The actual soil building/mixing can be done in an afternoon, unless you are busting up chunks of hardwood charcoal for biochar, or sifting your homemade EWC, those are waay more of a pain in the culo.
Not that you shouldn't have biochar and homemade ewc in your soil, those are crucial, IMO.

  19. FoxFarms is not organic!!! I dont run any of their products, I run the full liquid line from Roots Organic, been doing so for 3 years now have had great success.

Also @ your pic, I prefer to grow the plants in their own small container (solo cup, or a black "starter" pot thats little bigger than a solo cup) Im not sure how the hell your going to transplant those without fucking up the roots trying to seperate them.
