New guy asking for some expert help in dabs

Discussion in 'Concentrate Tools' started by richrock, Jan 13, 2015.

  1. Hello all, and thanks for taking the time to read my post.  I will try to explain my situation and question as clearly as possible.
I've been a casual smoker for a pretty long time now, but it's always been flower.  I'm looking to moving up to wax/oils/shatter/etc.  As a matter of fact, I have some friends coming in from South Dakota and the wife and I would love to have them expierence all that Colorado has to offer including some very potent dabs.  But I really have no clue as to how this all works.  From what I've been able to learn so far the term "dabs" is in reference to wax, shatter, oil...which are basically all similar but refined/extracted differently.  And the most efficent way to "dab" is using an oil rig.  However, for someone on a semi-limited budget, I'm not able to run out and buy a quality oil rig(they can be pretty expensive).  Most of my current flower smoking is done with little 'one hitter' glass bats, or maybe a very basic bubbler or glass pipe.  So I don't own ony devices with a "glass on glass" slide that would allow me to just invest in a "nail"(I believe that's correct....I'm learning as I go).  I DO however own a couple of Vision Spinner II 510 thread batteries(I am using vaping as a way to try and quit smoking tobacco), and also own a(most likely cheap) skull shaped glass globe atomizer that I was TOLD could be used for wax/shatter.  I've seen these globes mentioned in various posts around the net in regards to being used to dab.  I'm just trying to get more information on if this is a good alternative to buying an oil rig I can't afford??  Is there a better, but still inexpensive option??  And what about the oil??  Can I just use my regular "e-juice" atomizer for the oils??  Am I completely incorrect in the way I'm interpreting all this information??  Any and all tips/suggestions/instructions are greatly appreciated.

Again, thanks for taking the time to read this rambling post.

  2. No there not comparable to an oil rig. but since you already have vision spinner 2s it will be a great cheap alternative. i tiwll still get you high and hit decent but no where near a oil rig. but for $5-7 you might as well get it you wont be dissapointed.

Dabbintilldeath explained the pen side pretty well so ill just skip to rigs to give you some info. First you were right in your use of the word "nail". If your budget is small you can still get a decent setup. Out here they sell basic little rigs (basic sidecars and such) with a glass dome and nail for around $30. Which is what i would recommend for someone starting out. The pen set-up he was explaining will work yes, but IMO concentrates are fully experienced via rig. Just some food for thought. Feel free to message me with any questions i may be able to help with. Also if you can get it in your brain early that you cant season a ti nail with water, your already headed down the right path.

  5. Ok so first off, Shame on you for living in Colorado and calling oil "dabs" lol

Dab or dabbing is a verb. If you don't know what the consistency is, just call it errl.

    Second. Screw the pen.

If you can spend a little bit of money get a reclaim catcher($10-20) and a mouthpiece($5-20)attachment.
Flip your claim catcher upside down and move the vial to the other side. Insert the mouth piece and get a cheap clip($1-3) so it doesn't come off. Now just get a cheap quarts nail and you got your self a quality glass set up for as little as $20

  6. I just want to thank everyone that has replied!!  You have all given me such helpful info.  I look forward to learning more from this board, and getting better with the termonology!

As it stands right now, due to my current financial crunch, I'm going with the glass globe attachement for my 510 EGO battery.  From everything I've read in the responses this should work pretty good, but nowhere as good as a true rig.  When I have more time(and money) I plan on investing in a good "mid-grade" oil rig.  I'll probably have more questions in the near future.

  7. The smaller the better when it comes to oil rigs. Also get something with minimal diffusion. As small as you can get and still feel comfortable with it ;)

  8. Seeing as your in CO you should be able to find a cheap little bubbler rig with glass nail for around $30. It won't be anything special but the hit will be 10 x more intense out of a rig(yes it is that big of a difference). Getting started with Errl is a little pricey as you need a rig, nail, and torch. You can get the first two for around $30 but then the torch is another $15-$60 depending on brand.

Seeing as you smoke one bats mostly I think the pen should be fine for your tolerance level though.

  9. Appreciate the advice.  I'm going to hit a few head/pot shops today and see what they have as far as small rigs go.  I would much rather have the 10x intense expierence.
As far as my tolerance level goes, I smoke mostly one hit bats due to smoking with the wife, and that's what she prefers(each person has their own bat, can go at their own pace, etc).  When she's not around, a lot of times I'll break out Bongzilla(my 3 foot glass bong I've had since college) and use that.  I'm hoping with a good small rig, I'll be super dazed and unable to get off the couch.

  10.  well if all else fails, you could just get a super cheap rig off the web and use that a couple times. I know some people are really against it, but if its your first rig and all you could start off super cheap like 20$ or whatever and then when it brakes just invest in an american made piece. best of luck man!  :bongin:

  11. This.

Dont drop a lot of $$ on your first rig. I spent $300 on my first rig only to realize its not what I wanted.

  12. And on top of that, i bought my friend a cheap 35$ recycler that functions great as a gift and for the money it's a great rig when you have no moneys hahaha

I did the same basically, lol. I bought a rig off dhgate only to find out it was a set, so I got one and a friend got one as a present. I ended up selling mine too for almost double what I payed because i got another. And all the glass i've bought from china so far has functioned better than most "quality" american glass. Besides aesthetic issues nothing is wrong with most china glass. I'm OK with a joint being a tad off on a $30 piece knowing glass is basically made to break.
    OP, look at these:

you could get a god rig like this for only $40
     http://www.dhgate.com/store/product/2015-feb-newest-glass-bong-9-quot-inches/229098432.html
Or go the cheapest route, but something you won't regret, for $13
    http://www.dhgate.com/store/product/glass-waterpipe-oil-bong-with-dome-and-glass/190458683.html

Free shipping on both. You can have a rig for as little as $13.13 shipped to your front door in a week and a half.
I don't care who you are, that's awesome. Even people with friggin $20,000 dollar pieces should have that thirteen dollar guy on a shelf just as a beater.

  14. Cheap ash catchers with a domeless nail or quartz banger and j hook is a cheap way to make and oil rig, should be no more then $50-60 to get ya started.
