Cheap Grow Cabinet Build

  1. Been studying up a lot on what It takes to get the job done, and I believe I've consumed all the second hand knowledge that I can. Now is the time to get this thing going and get some first hand experience myself. So far I'm a around 150$ in and almost have my box, itself complete. Making this post, not to show others how to do it themselves, but more so because I'm a first-timer and in need of some help when questions arise; However if you want me to post the steps I've taken thus far to make the box just let me know. If your experienced please follow this post, and if you were a first timer not too long ago I may run into the same problems so all advice is welcome.

Below is a picture of my project so far. its currently layed on its side, and on the very end where the three horizontal beams are is the bottom. Surpassed my current budget because school has also begun last week and I have other expenses to be concerned with. Stay tuned for further progress :D

  2. Apologies for the need for a head tilt, anybody know any good ways to keep temperatures stable? I was originally thinking of insulating the box, but that was before I discovered that the air in there needs to be replaced every 5 minutes or so. Would insulating it do anything at all? the garage fluctuates from around mid 60's to low 50's late at night which is far too cold. Any suggestions?

  3. If you use Mylar instead of flat white paint, that alone, with a good seal and active exhaust/passive air might be enough to keep your cab reasonable, what are your plans for lighting now?

  4. 400 watt with XL wing. Will it increase the temperature that much despite cold air from the garage being pumped in? Plan on rubberizing and some good reflective lining.

I don't have experience with hps, but they do throw out a good amount of heat.

    Is that ~7 feet tall?

  7. I think if you're using passive intake and active exhaust, your temps should stay comfortable without any insulation. If you feel it's too cold, could always pick up some foam insulation sheets from home depot and cut to fit.

  8. From what I understand 55 is the coldest you should go.I think you should be ok with between 50 and 6o.
    I'm deaf no pro

  9. I want optimal temps. Like between mid 60's to high 70's. I mean trial and error is always an option I'm just curious if there's anyone out there who has some experience with a similar size grow box that deals with fluctuating temps throughout seasons.

  10. Dimensions are 4'11x6'1x3'(LxHxD). Light will be 400 watt Hps and Mh. 190 CFM 4' ducting carbon filter. Two 2 inch passive intake PVC tubes located on both sides at the bottom. Two 4 in oscillating fans located on both sides.

  11. Setup sounds great. Excited to see it in action

  12. Current progress! Lights and filter packages are supposed to come in on Monday! :D

Anybody know what's up with BCbuddepot? Attempting to get seeds, but everywhere that is mentioned in the list of links either doesn't accept visa or has such a small selection.

Another question, my third picture is a picture of the rig I have setup for my in take, plan on filling it with water and having it work almost like a bong so that if I want I can pop a few dry ice pieces in there and mess with the CO2 levels a little. Still need to insert the ducting which will pull air from the outside, down the ducting( which will be partially submerged in the water like a stem) then through the PVC(Above water level) and into my box. MY idea is I can manage the air temp that goes into my box by the temp of the water, BUT my real question is, will it overexert the fan pulling the air through the water? and will this negative pressure be bad?

  13. keep it simple bro, dry ice, bong bucket.....meh

if u are really worried about temps set it up and test your temps before you sprout anything(you will need a max/min thermometor{may as well gra a hydrometer in that device too) and if you temps are infact out of range you can put in a bit of ducting and play around with where the exhaust extracts from(obviuosly hot air rises) possibly put a fan blowing from aove the light down onto the plants to push some heat down(honestly though i think that light will warm things up nicely, run it for a few days and see what readings you get

  14. I have a closet grow that I had to battle with temp flux with the winter since it's a closet with 3 sides are outdoor walls so I insulated with foam and I have a passive outtake and an active intake, I use a 180w ufo LED and a 125w cfl temps durring the day stay anywhere from 73-76 with 30-40% humidity, and at night it gets as low as 62-64 and everything is going well so far I'm 4 weeks into flower so no problems have arisen so far, my space is 4'x3'x4-5' (ceiling is on a slope) hope that can help a little

  16. Lights and Fan came in about a week ago! Temps are looking good and humidity should be up once pots and soil are in. Currently fermenting my organic soil mix and waiting a few days for my seeds to come in.

  17. Same man, my garage gets pretty cold at night so I figured I'm going to choose the light cycle wisely so that I can have my temps at optimal levels! I can see the led proposing problems with keeping temps up during winter, but at least you'll be solid during the summer.

  18. Anybody know if fermenting your soil under your light is a bad idea? Got about 600 watts pumping at 50%. Is it bad to have the humidity and temp too high during fermentation?
