Can weed make my migraines worse?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by NerdyCavegirl, Jan 9, 2015.

  1. Can weed make my migraines worse? I wanna see if it'll help I get one, but not if there's a chance it'll make things worse.

  2. well there have been tests that test psychedelics ( lsd, shroons etc) for treating migraines and they were found to work. I would say a really psychedelic high thc strain would work for migraines, vaporized for maximum effects. stay away from leafy strains ( leafy bud) as they tend to have more chlorophyll and that has been known to cause headaches in some people. if you have access to cannabis oil that can help too with just a few drops.

  3. It obviously depends on which strain, which I'm def not as well-versed in as other people here, but it has helped my migraines tremendously! Maybe it's a jaw tension-relief thing, I'm not sure. FYI, I vape with the MFLB when as soon as I feel the migraine coming on, or when I wake up with a migraine.

  4. Mt experience is that it varies depending upon the individual. My migraines do not typically respond to mmj, although it does help with the nausea that can accompany them.

  5. Indica strains may help nausea and sativa may help headaches, do not do wax though

  6. I've successfully dealt with a migraine using both indicas and sativas. I've never had one made worse.

  7. I've had a decent amount of success with certain strains (master kush and CBDivine, just off the top of my head).  I have, however, had my headaches made worse by other strains (mostly sativas, which also make my anxiety worse, so I just stay away).  Most extracts/oil/wax either don't help my headaches or give me a slight headache.  I much prefer to vape (or in a pinch, smoke) bud.

  8. my better half vapes her weed when she has a migrane and she tends to find it takes the edge off.

    Chef.

  9. I've never smoked while I have a full blown migraine. But I have smoked right around when I first started getting a headache before the migraine came on. It didn't help at all, if anything it made it worse. That's just my experience.

I don't know if it matters, but I get retinal migraines, which basically means all of the pain is in my eyes. Maybe marijuana affects retinal migraines differently but I'm not educated on this.

  10. cannabis helps with glaucoma by increasing blood pressure in the eyes ( its why we get red eye :smoking: ) so if the pressure is causing you headaches cannabis would make it worse IMO

  11. Any kind of pain I have ever experienced except fever is cured by cannabis. I wouldn't recommend it, but you could definitely try it.

  12. I don't medicate specifically for my migraines (I've finally found another rx that actually works for me), but I've never had a migraine made worse.  I prefer edibles for pain, though, as I can't imagine being able to smoke in the middle of a full-fledged migraine.
