  1. Ok so i need help hooking up a new tv to an old directtv box, I'll be getting HD in a few months, for now I have to go SD.
Problem is I can't seem to get them to hook up, there's no hdmi on box and my tv doesn't have regular video audio in and outs.

I went to bestbuy and RadioShack and they were clueless.

  2. if you have the right cord you can probably do it using the "ant in" plug on the tv and under your thumb there should be an out on the dtv box, connect those two and you're in business? i think.. i'm not tech savy at all but i had dtv too and pretty sure thats how i had mine set up before getting hd.

  3. Thanks, I gave it a try but it didn't work :(

  4. You need to hook it up to the "antenna out" on the box, then "TV in" or "antenna in" on your TV.

After that grab your TV remote and run a channel search, or manually add the analog channels 3 and 4. Then try both channels, it should be on one of those.

This should solve your problem. I hooked up my grandparents old direct box to their new HD TV using this method. Hope it works.

  5. Didn't work.... ugh I hooked up my laptop to it so I can watch Netflix until my HD box arrives.

  6. where did your pics go OP?  Hard to help if I cant see the hookups you have open to you

  7. Most tv's will also take a composite input in the component jacks. Yellow goes in the green, leave the leftmost red and blue jacks alone, and then the red and white go in audio L and audio R. You might give that a shot, worst case scenario you get a black and white picture.

  8. So the SD box doesnt have an hdmi because its standard not high def. also, how old is this box, did you have it disconnected at one time you know, talk to tech support? how long till the new box? what kind of inputs ARE you seeing on the tv. chek sides n all.

  9. Sorry guys, I removed pics since directtv sent a free HD box and dvr, turns out the owner of house has been a customer for like a decade and was eligible for free shit.

So yeah even directtv tech was stumped that my new Samsung led doesn't have component hookups, just HDMI.

  10. My favorite part of working for DirecTV was giving customers free stuff!

  11. I offered to smoke him out but he says he gets tested randomly, is that true?

I've had friends work for directtv and they smoke mad.
