Marinol (Dronabinol)

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by lessthanjeezy, Jan 8, 2015.

  1. Hey Blades,

My mom got back from her oncologist today (She has been battling lung cancer for the last two + years, one of the strongest, bravest people I know) and due to the fact my mom is worried about being drug tested at her job and losing her health insurance/benefits from using mmj, the doctor wrote my mom a prescription for Marinol.

I have heard of Marinol in the past, but have read that it doesn't necessarily have the best results..The main reason my mom is taking it is for an appetite stimulant as she keeps losing wait.

If anyone who has experience with taking marinol or knows a friend/family member who needed to use marinol could let me know how the effects were for them and if it was helpful or not.

Any help is appreciated, Positive Vibes blades.

  2. I used marinol a couple of times, recreationally, and was not impressed. I don't have any experience with it for medical usage. My friend who has the prescription only uses it when he is travelling to states with harsh MJ laws, otherwise he prefers to use the real thing.

As far as I know, your Mom will not pass a drug test if she is on marinol. But showing the prescription for it might get her out of trouble.

  3. After additional research I saw she would still fail with marinol, but having a prescription or additional testing looking for other compounds in cannabis could help her (if she was ever drug tested)

  4. Good health and positive vibes to you and your mom :)

  5. I worked with a guy who became a trippy space case on marinol. look to get a cbd strain for her and have her vaporize it along with taking what the doctor prescribed.marinol could cause anxiety and the cbd will balance out the high thc content of marinol and will help to calm her more. I will be so so so happy when I do not read about peoples' concerns being drug tested in relation to their health. as it is now try and get healthy go to jail or lose a job, what a messed up situation. positive vibes sent to your mom for her recovery and good health :)

  6. There are many cancer treatment centers that use marinol for appetite stimulation. Medical cannabis has been found to be the single most effective medicine in combating "wasting syndrome" (chemo patients that won't eat, and as a result, the slowly waste away, adding even more ammo to the cancercerious death). My question would be, why would your mother be afraid of being drug tested at work if she is dying? That does not make sense at all. I would quit my job in a heartbeat if my life depnded on it. Maybe sue the company that threaten to fire me if i tested positive for THC. Set up a nice little college fund for my kids after I pass on.

I'll pray for your mom bro. I wish you the best.

  7. Much appreciated,

And I totally see where you are coming from, the reason she is afraid is she doesn't want to become a financial burden on the family if she loses health insurance and her income, and my father doesn't have a large income at all so it would be on him and the kids to pay for everything, including the house which we have told her we are more than happy to do that, but she said she wouldn't do that to us.

Unfortunately Sueing won't get you anywhere as they can cite it is federally illegal and as a private employer we have the right to terminate people based on testing positive for a federally "illegal" drug.

The whole situation is super shitty, but once my mom does go on Long Term Disability, the Marinol will stop and I will start providing for my mom. But for now, if this will help her to start eating, I will be happy with that.

  8. SO just an update for anyone interested in the thread, my mom tried the marinol a few different times...The first time it didn't really do much and the next, my mom starting having a pounding headache, got sick to her stomach and began throwing up and just felt paranoid...Since I know the effects of cannabis well, and to see what was going on I decided to try it just to see if my mom just doesn't like the effects, or if the marinol itself is making her feel that way and sure enough, it is the synthetic marinol...

I took one the other day, nothing really happened. Took two yesterday, and after about 45 minutes I just became sleepy and lethargic, and just felt strange and confused, nothing like the feeling you get from real THC...I think it is safe to say my mom is done with trying this, and hopefully I can convince her to try the real thing sooner than later.

  9. Too bad it didn't help. If she decides to use cannabis and then gets drug tested at work, she can still show her employer the marinol script. Most employers only test for THC.

  10. I don't understand Marinol, as I refuse to try any pharmaceutical based medications related to marijuana, but can't she just use RSO and if she's testing positive for THC because of Marinol anyways, then use the Marinol as an excuse to be using the rso?

  11. It may be an option, but I have no way of obtaining RSO where I live.

  12. If you have access to high volumes of cannabis you can make your own.

  13. Don't have access to high volumes either...With the amount I have to pay currently, I can't afford it.

  14. Drop it on your dealer that she has cancer bro. if he doesn't give a sht about cutting you a small break, drop him as a dealer and grow your own.
