Discussion in 'The Bookshelf' started by steadyburnin, Jan 5, 2015.

  1. Hey guys and gals, I'm looking for some good websites for general knowledge not necessarily applying to marijuana (but I'll check out those websites to if you do happen to suggest some). I want to broden my knowledge of everything. I'm only posting here because I didn't want to get trolled in the general section lol. Thanks in advance!

  2. surf wikipedia.

  3. Watch Discovery ;) I'm sure they have a website as well...

  4. Hey brotha! I respect the search for knowledge. I'd recommend you to Khan academy, its great for attaining the foundation of knowledge you want in each subject to truly understand anything further. It's all video instruction with examples and an excellent break down making it all seem so simple. The format for the site also provides a great deal of motivation with quizzes you can take and a progress tracker through a series of medals and points you earn by watching videos and taking quizzes. Along with this site the YouTube channel 'crash course' offers very engaging videos on nearly anything you're interested in. Hope this helps, knowledge is power!

  5. Thanks man I will definitely check that out!

  6. Seriously man, Wikipedia.

I think the better question is what do you want to learn about? Once you know that its a lot easier to point you in the right direction

  7. ..you can always return to school ...admit you fucked up ...perhaps marry a teacher!

  8. You can learn about almost anything from Ted Talks. It's just a matter of choosing what you wanna watch. And there is a lot to choose from.

  9. If you have the money www.thegreatcourses.com, youtube is pretty dope with vast amounts of lectures and resources. If you're into geopolitics russian times (www.rt.com) has a pretty unbiased perspective on America. Just reading anything that gets you stoked is your best bet. Once you develop strong reading comprehension skills by reading whatever you desire (not junk food for the brain like forums, or short articles like www.cracked.com, these train the mind to seek straight to the point answers and drops attention span to a gold fish's standard) the world is your oyster, just develop the discipline first by reading whatever intrigues you. A lot of people go down the road of self-education but lack the discipline, if you're serious you need to train your mind to enjoy it otherwise it just becomes a chore and you lose interest. Follow your intuition and know that everything is a learning opportunity, it's just depends on how you utilize the moment. Enjoy and good luck

  10. There are two books I'm going to recommend. Both are relatively inexpensive and cover just about everything in the world.  The first one is The New York Times Guide to Essential Knowledge

The other book is the New York Public Library Desk Reference. This book was compiled by librarians and is a collection of the most common questions they're asked. It's a great basic overview of just about everything.

let me get this right, you have an ungodly thirst for knowledge yet you don't know where to quench it?

    troll much

  12.
you gotta admit this thread was a good source for online resources.

    Anyway,
I heard that these ancient buildings still exist where you can physically borrow physical prints free of charge!!

I think they're called books and if you're lucky your town will have a library.

  13. Honestly its a life-long pursuit, just research whatever interests you. Train your mind to be in a state of wonder like a childs, let everything teach you.

  14. Get Netflix and watch every documentary on there. Or if you don't want Netflix or have already watched all of them check out Top Documentaries.

Also if look up books in subject matters that interest you and try to find them at the library if you can't afford to build your own.

  15. Self Education is the only True form of Education if you ask me. Books books books

You choose what you learn as you are passionate and exited and interested about the subject.

Forcing has always shown poor results.
