Transplanting with additional perlite

  1. Hi all!

This is my first grow in a year.

I've had a few grows before, since 2010.

My hypothesis here is that, by adding a layer of perlite to the bottoms of my pots, I'm creating a buffer between drain-off and the ills associated with it, and I'm giving more air to my roots.

I've seen other growers putting activated carbon in the bottom of their pots before, but since I'm growing organically, adding mycorrhizae every other week, and not too worried about lockout or undue salt buildup, I'm thinking the perlite will do the trick, and give my roots a better environment.

Has anyone tried this? I searched and found nothing.

    Thanks for your time.

  3. Right on.

My concern isn't for overall drainage, as I add an additional 30% perlite to my mix.

My concern is that, because I use a kind of compost tea, and the drainoff might sit for a while, I should use a loose, noncompactable medium like perlite at the bottom so the roots don't rot.

    Any thoughts?
