Is flushing really that good?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by james.wolverine97, Jan 2, 2015.

  1. I mean wouldn't it wash off all natural nuts from the soil? and also even if you try draining it as much as possible there will be shit ton of water left in, you've all heard of plants dying because being watered too much, isn't flushing just the same thing?

  2. I hope this isn't serious

  3. *sigh*

  4. What?

  5. What kinda nuts? I love macadamia nuts.

    LOL
    Well... We all start somewhere...

Flushing is basically cleaning all the nutes out of the soil. You can do this one of two ways... Use a chemical flusher to break up pockets where nutes get bound up in the soil...(Look up bush doctor sledgehammer) or you just use clean water for a week and let it all run off. Someone may write a longer explanation, but I am too lazy and still kind of laughing at what you typed sorry.

  7. He is serious.  LOL tho.  Ok, there are two types/reasons for flushing.

First, when you are coming up to the harvest, stop feeding the plants and give the straight water for two weeks leading up to.  This is what virtually everybody that grows does.  It gets the extra nutes out of the soil/plant so the ganja tastes better.

Second, if you have over-nuted the hell out of your plants (a common newb mistake) you may have such a salt buildup in the soil and around the roots that the plant can't use what it has.  In that case, flushing the hell out of the soil (2-3x amount of soil with water).

I have never done the latter and don't like the idea of it at all regardless of how safe it is to do.

  8. Wish somebody would flush this nut...

  9. Yeah but think about it, over watering your plants isn't a good thing right?, flushing is the same thing you over water it so much that it comes out of the other side?

  10. Stop talking and grow dude, you should call yourself threadcount ha

  11. Flushing was and is used to leach salts from the roots zone. It is a natural build up regardless of the style you grow. If you want it to taste good just dry and cure well. If you are concerned somehow the plant if contaminated by the fertilizers then go ahead and flush. Even organic guys are making the same chemicals the enhanced growers are adding. You can see how they get too much nitrogen or phosphorus, they call it hot soil. Enhanced growers usually over do it and I would recommend a light flush a week before flowering to get the saline out of the root zone. After that is a personal choice.

The only reason I would flush at harvest is to make a person using it to medicate feel better about what is going in them. If I were growing for myself as a casual smoker I would not bother. Feed the plant until the end and maybe time the chop so the last feeding is water, you will live. You are right, people destroy the plant similar to when a human drinks too much water and we go into electrolyte shock. But if you are doing it at harvest you are going to kill the plant anyway.

I mean, really...you are smoking a substance that shares many of the carcinogens that tobacco has. Getting high by smoking anything has consequences. It is not natural to take in smoke into your lungs. You genetics can be triggered to react by the weirdest of things.

If you think it tastes better, then do it. At the end of the day it is your smoke and if you like, who are we? As time progresses and we can legally research, many of these questions will be answered. Right now, it is anecdotal, urban legend, subjective, and out right lies like the white ash lie.

  12. Water is good for plants, but we let our ladies dry out after each water :) at least to our first-second knuckle on the index finger.

Flushing helps. Been told yes and no for soil... But a solid yes for coco

  13. Lmao yes.

  14. There is no such thing as 'over-watering', the only thing is your plants suffocating because the soil isn't aerated enough. You could pour 10gallons through a 2 gal pot every day. If your soil is properly aerated you won't have a problem

  15. How can I over water in my DWC setup? My plant is soaking in water 24/7

  16. Haha f'reals

I don't know where you're from, where I'm from is quite damp and watering plants too much can cause the roots to rot, and can get infestation of black flies.

  19. You should start a thread about it ya cabbage

  20. Yeah soil, too many smart ass's on this thread.
