Transplanting smart pots

  1. Ok so this will be my 4th grow. I am going to use the sips method with 3 gallon smart pots with my mix of organic soil. My question is can i start the seed in the 3 gallong smart pot or start in solo cup then move to 1 gallong pot then to smart pot?

  2. Opinions vary. I've been planting femenized seeds directly in my final pots. (5 gallon smart pot SIP's. ) Regular seeds I do in cups so I can sex them before they get too big.

  3. there are conflicting opinions on this (like most grow techniques)
Personally, when I did it that way, I prefered to transplant at least once prior to going to the final container (in your case the 3 gallon), but it depends on how long you vege for, as well as what techniques you use (lst, mainline, etc) I have noticed that if you transplant from a tiny container to a much larger one the roots seem to spread out and "dive" and there are pockets of less dense root mass, on the inner parts of the soil media, sorta like a shell, when transplanted from a solo cup to a one gallon and then to a three gallon would net you a more dense rootball, in my opinion, not to mention it'll allow you to dust it with mychorrizhae two times instead of once, which is always a good thing.
I like to mist the roots with water when you get the plant out of it's old container, it gets the roots "sticky" which allows the mycho to stick to the roots nicely.
I base this completely on my post harvest rootball inspection, I encourage anyone trying different methods, techniques, nutrients, soil mixes, etc to do this, a rootball inspection will tell you a lot.
Course if you no-till, it's not that simple, but typically going to a no-till setup is only after you get the soil and nutrients all squared away.

  4. I can only fit 2 plants in my small space. Thats why i liked the idea of a sips, i have spinal problems and my space is really low so the less moving them in and out of the room, the better. They will be feminized seeds in using. I always transplanted twice but this is the first time in using smart pots. I lst the plants and depends on how they grow i will top them once maybe twice

  5. ahh, my sympathies on your spinal issues, I have some of my own.
Perhaps a well established single smart pot may be a better idea, since you only go with two plants, get a big ole 25 gallon in there and put both plants together in the same pot, it'll work fabulous, trust me, it's a total myth that plants have to have their own container.
Go no-till, and lst them to fill the canopy, and you don't have any heavy lifting at all, after harvest, topdress a speck and then fire up your second set.
I wish you a speedy recovery on your back, if not a full recovery than at least some fantastic crystally-goodness cannabis to help with your pain.

I go into a sphagnum peat moss, vermicompost and per light mix with some TM-(humic acid) then into final pot. My first pot can hold a cup and a half of soil. It's never failed me. Or I use Fox farms light warrior seed starter. It has good results too. I'm on my fourth grow myself. Good luck dude. Autos don't like to be transplanted. So one time is enough or the plant will suffer.

  7. I have herniated discs in my back and degenerative disc disease and I grow medical autos. The edibles from the canna butter from my grows has been awsome. Wicked body buzz. Took my leg pain away.

  8. Thanks. I had 4 spinal fusions, hip problems, curved spine and i have been told all my discs are degenerated to the point of a 70 year old, and im in my 30's. I seen pain clinics and they just stuffed pain meds down my throat. Well i quit one day and never touched then again. I never smoked before and hardly ever drink but i tried it and it helped with my depression, anxiety attacks, regulates my sugar levels better, pain, and no need to take several pills. Also i make my own meds and the reason i chose 2-3 gallon smart pots is money. I just couldnt afford all the ingredients in the amount i would need to make 25 gallons.
Im just finalizing my thoughts before the weekend, i have to clean the room and get it ready for the new grow. I need a big pc case to make clones and speed uo time between harvests. I give some of mine away to a in-law and when i have a large amount around i tend to smoke all day. Lol

  9. Im curing my harvest now and it is the best i have had yet. The buds are really hard and 2 plants i got 7 ounces dried. I have always had some sort of deficiencie but hope going organic will put a end to all that. Plus i flushed and watered with just distilled water for 3 weeks before harvest and i still here popping when i smoke, which i thought was ferts burning

  10. I made 3 batches of cannaoil. The last 2 batches made me sick, i just drink the oil. The first batch got my wife stoned for 2 days just using it as a salad dressing, hardly using any. The only difference is i used dried bud and clippings on the first batch and used fresh on the last 2

  11. Did you decarb before making the oil?

  12. The first 2 times no, this last time yes. I just put the bud and clippings in a pot of oil and warm it to the point it bubbles once, then turn it back a tad. Stir every 15 minutes of so for 3 hours. Strain, cool and pour into bottle. I really would try to make some this weekend cause i cant smoke if i am out for awhile and edibles solves that. It gets to the point i cant walk when it wears off cause my bone spurs in my hips

  13. That's the difference. In those first two batches to had THCa with isn't psychoactive. (But does have some beneficial properties.) After decarb you have activated THC which is psychoactive. Your cooking process isn't getting hot enough long enough to get the job done, so decarb before makes it potent.

  14. Ok the first batch was dried and non decarb and was strong as all hell. 2nd batch fresh bud and non decarb was shitty and the 3rd was fresh and decarb but how exactly do you do it. And 3rd came out shitty

  15. I also was told any bubbles are bad when heating, but my old house were i made my first batch was a gas stove and i used a electric at my new place and it was bubbling at the very very lowest setting. The 3rd i tried putting the pot on a griddle. I also use vegetable oil since i make brownies once in awhile

  16. You're going to like the 3 gallon smart pots.
