Macbook Iphone Users

  1. If you haven't linked your IPHONE to your MAC PC device (macpro / macbooks) you are asleep at the wheel.

First you're gonna want to link your iphone's messaging app to your mac's messaging app. That way you can receive all texts on your macbook, reply as normal etc etc. IDK the exact process but heres what I did....

    • For starters... OSX yosemite (OS v10.10) is free for download and it is a huge visual and performance upgrade. it can be found in the app store.  TBH im not sure if OSX Yosemite is required for this feature.. I believe it is new with firmware 8.1 on IOS, so make sure your Iphone is up to date aswell (8.1.2 I think)
    • Then open the messaging app on your Mac, it will probably ask you to sign in with your APPLE ID. Do so. If it doesn't, go to the preferences of the messaging app and then make sure you are signed in.
    • Open the Settings app on IPHONE. Navigate down to Messages > Text Message Forwarding and make sure that badboy is turned on. When you do this a 5 digit number will likely appear on your macbook's screen, in the center and it will tell you to type it into your IPHONE, when you look @ your phone you will see a dialog box and a keyboard pull up, type the 5 digit number in.
    • You should now be linked (if not post here and i'll help you get sorted out)

You can do everything you'd normally do but from the comfort of your PC; the best feature is the ability to drag and drop images from anywhere into the messages textbox and send them to your friends...

    Enjoy

  2. Sucks you gotta keep your software fully updated to use all that stuff. I like my unofficial apps too much!

  3. I used to keep my IPHONE jailbroke for a while too but it just is overrated imo. i dont use my phone for much anyways and It just became too glitchy for me. Cydia market is pretty shit imo.

  4. Yeeaaahhhh!!!!!

  5. Yeah I was into jail breaking too for a while. I had a bunch of sick themes and shit too man lol. I must have spent so many hours setting that stuff up. It makes your phone unbelievably slow after a while though.

I'm actually not jail broken now. I just have a couple unofficial emulators and stuff which rely on an exploit in 8.0.1 to work, so if I upgrade to the newest build they will just glitch out and crash every time I try to use them.

  6. Text message forwarding may be an 8.0 feature, see for yourself under settings > messages if you have the feature available.. you'd have to first sign in on the mac messages app though for it to become an option at all on ur iphone

  7. I still haven't updated either of mine.

don't have enough space on my phone to update it.  it's on 8.0 right now.  even when I plug it in it says there's not enough space, which is weird.

and I just haven't felt like updating to yosemite yet.

Yosemite is pretty dope so far. Like I said it's a big graphical ovehaul. Install took a while though.. around 45 minutes.

  9. I'm still on Mac OS Snow Leopard.. Can I upgrade to Yosemite for free? Or is it only free for people with the adjacently previous OS?

  10. not sure if u need to have mountain lion or not... go to the appstore n check

  11. I don't have my MacBook handy, but I checked apple's website and mine is listed under compatible models! Hopefully it works, when I get back from my parents' house I'm gonna try it out.

yo @llllllllll So I finally updated to osx yosemite, and my iphone is on the most up to date software as well.

I'm signed into icloud on both devices.  But on my phone when I go to settings -> messages there is no text message forwarding.  Just: options to

    -turn imessage on/off,
    -read receipts on/off,
    -send as sms
-send & receive (which leads to my phone number or my email for imessage, not forwarding)
    -mms messaging on/off
    -group messaging on/off
    -show subject field on/off
    -character count on/off
    -blocked

then options for how long I want to keep messages.  and I can't find text message forwarding anywhere else either.  I went to the imessage app on my computer's preferances and don't see an option for it.  The only messages that show up are old imessages from when I synced the two like a year ago and I don't even remember how I did that lol.

edit:  I can send imessages from my computer.  i just sent myself one.  but things aren't fully synced up how they're supposed to be.

yeah I had that problem the other day when I changed my APPLE ID EMAIL and PASSWORD. I had to restore my iphone -_-

Id say restoring (without a backup!) is your best option.. but if that sounds like something you dont want to do for whatever reason, then call apple I guess lol. Sorry. I know .. I tried figuring it out for about 45 minutes when it happened to me the other day.. I dont have much on my phone besides contacts so I just said fuccit and did it.

  14. ah damn.  I really don't wanna restore without a backup, I've got tons of music/pictures/other shit on my phone I don't wanna lose.

hopefully they get it fixed in the next minor update or something.  I would assume it's happening to other people too.

  15. You can try restoring with a backup.. I didn't because, like I said, I had nothing to lose on my phone.

BTW ICLOUD has nothing to do with imessage forwarding afaik. I dont use ICLOUD at all on my mac.

I actually figured it out after looking around a little bit.

You don't have to restore your phone, you just need to go into the "send/receive" window on your phone, then tell it to use your apple ID in addition to your phone number for imessage.  after that the "Text Message Forwarding" option will be available in settings.

  17. Niiiice! Cool because im sure more people will have that problem and I couldnt fix it for the life of me when it happened
