After coming home from studying abroad and some minor implications due to bulb size being too big, I have finally setup the rig!

    Setup:

    Fox Farm Ocean Forest
    Perlite
NZXT Source 530 Full Tower PC Case
    4x 23w 6500k CFL
    2x 1 Gallon Smart Pots
    2x 120mm fans
    1x Dinafem White Widow Auto
    1x Lowryder #2 Auto

The last grow I did was in a hydroponic box and I completely failed at that one....hopefully soil will be more forgiving :)

The seeds are currently germinating through paper towel + baggie.

I let the PC run over night to see what the temps are like and its hot as hell in there! 98F is what I was looking at. I guess the fans are not strong enough? Or maybe because its in a closet the air being recycled is too hot. Any input? I wanna fix this issue before I get my babys in there.

EDIT: I should also add that I have 1 intake 1 exhaust...would changing to double exhaust help?

Double Edit: I moved the thermometer lower, I guess it was reading the heat that the bulbs were giving off. I've been able to drop the temp down to 81F.

  3. Be sure to check your temperature on different levels in your grow: at the intake, the exhaust, on the top of your smartpot, and on top of the plant (if you have one  :smoking: ).
I think its not a good idea to place the case in a closet, because it will not ventilate very good that way.

Do you have a carbon filter allready? If not, you will really need one, especially with your "recycled"  air setup.  :D

  4. I haven't made a carbon filter yet...I plan to make one if I can get to flowering haha.

The little babies have emerged from the soil :) the top of the soil has been looking a bit dry so I've been lightly misting it about 2-3 times a day. The first photo is of the White Widow and second is the lowryder #2.

    When should I begin watering?

Also, currently I have the lights setup as how they are currently in the original photo. Should I lower the lights? I've read that the CFLs should almost be touching them so they don't stretch.

  6. Bump, feedback is appreciated!

  7. I only water my veggers when the pot is feeling light, and then I will soak them real good when I do water, but I am in coco and hempy buckets so I have no idea if that still applies to soil as well. Looks good so far!

  8. I ended up water them until I got some runoff. They really perked up and grew a bit, im guessing they were really thirsty.

  9. Here's an update of them:

    Day 8

First one is actually easy ryder auto...planted wrong seed. 2nd is of the white widow. Both look to be doing good!

    When do I start LST?

    Day 14!

It seems like the white widow is having a hard time keeping up with my easy ryder. The white widows leaves are also turning a bit...I have an electronic thermometer that reads 98 degrees in my pc and a mercury thermometer that reads 84, not quite sure which one I should go off of. I've been watering about every 4 days with a 10% flush.

    When do I start nutes?

EDIT: I just noticed that I got about 6 inches of roots just coming straight out of the bottom of my smart pot! What should I do? Just leave it? Or should I snip it off?

    Day 22!

Seems like this journal isn't receiving too much attention. As for the good news both the plants are showing pistols :). As for the bad news....odd spots are starting to show up on the leaves. I have yet to start nutes, which I'm thinking about doing tomorrow.

When do I switch to flowering lights? Could this weird spot on my leaf be because it needs nutes?

  12. I would switch to 12/12 now, or else they are going to outgrow your box for sure.... Looks like you have daylight bulbs in there right now 5000 or 6000 color temp.  Make sure you switch them out to 2700s for flowering.  Your plants look good...

Im not expert on this by the way, but could that spot have been a water spot that got burned from the lights?

One more, I would either top, or LST them soon.

  13. yes i agree with splat. Remember they pretty much double in height when you switch to flower. so if they are already past half way then you will need to LST or top to make sure it doesn't grow into your lights, you cant LST or top during flower and give it a few days after doing what ever training method you decide to use before switching into flower.

Looking at your leaves they actually showing signs of nitrogen toxicity. So you actually need to rein in those nutes a bit.

Did you put both fans on exhaust ? I feel that while your plants are low in your pc case they will be fine but as soon as they start reaching the upper parts of your case, they could get heat stress. Rather improve your ventilation now before it becomes a problem  :smoke:

  14.
I ordered velcro straps to LST them but they wont be in for a week :/

I think you are right about the water spot burn, I had the same suggestion in another thread.

The plants are autos so I really cant send them into flowering until they decide to. I have 2 exhaust and 1 intake but I'm going to add a fourth fan and do 2 intake 2 exhaust. The temps get pretty high because the PC is in a closed closet. I switched 1 bulb yesterday to a 2700k. I'm swapping them at 1 bulb a day.

  15. I used these clipped on the sides of my pot, and then used pipe cleaners to tie down the lower bud sites.  It works great, and cheap...

Good idea, I'll probably end up doing that then.

I'm not quite sure if those marks are actually from water....The picture on the left is the easy ryder which shows yellow around the leaf and the picture on the right is the white widow now getting these marks around the lower tier of the leaves..
