Broke the usb port to my headset...can I fix it?

Discussion in 'General' started by AsthmaticStoner, Dec 22, 2014.

  1. So everything on the headset is intact but the usb port thing has a small chip off the edge.

Is it salvageable? Can I buy replacement parts? Or just chuck it in the trash?

  2. how much was your headset worth? can ya buy a new one?

if yes, buy a new one

if no, go to a surplus electronics store with the broken piece and get a new one.

if your not good with tools, cross your fingers that it don't need any soldering

  3. just cut the end off another, unused cord and hook it up. should work fine so long as you connect the wires properly

  4. It's a Sennheiser headset so it was about $120.

I have a cousin who does soldering I could go to.

TheAnswer121, what kind of cord do I need to look for to cut up?

    Bump.

Here's a picture of the usb part that's been chipped.

  6. Yea it's fucked . If anything important was on the area chipped off then your probably screwed, and if it's just a connection you might be able to connect the two points that are not connected by soldering a little bit of wire.

  7. I was assuming that that little chip had screwed it over. I'll see if I can talk my mom into giving me half for my next headset (if I ever end up buying another one). Maybe I'll buy some Astro A40s.

    "I only need $125"

"What?! That's how much the other one was!"

    "Yea...I wanted to upgrade."

  8. Go Bluetooth lets u move around rather than being leashed to your PC , phone/player.

  9. Never seen any bluetooth headsets other than Sony's $100 set and that little one ear piece thing made by them aswell.

  10. Check these out great sound different EQ settings (discontinued for some reason). I have 3 sets and still on my first that has lasted me 3.5 yrs. Wired sets would only last me 4-5 months mostly.

Those look so cool! Kinda sucks that it doesn't have a mic, I really wanted it for online for PS3 games. For 60 dollars though, it sounds like something I might buy next paycheck. I bought some new earbuds because I lost my Sennheiser CX-300 somewhere. They were only 4 bucks and I got what I paid for...only thing is I don't think I have anything bluetooth other than the PS3 and my phone. But that should be good enough.

  12. question answered on amazon

I've used it before on the PS3, you'll only get the voice communications channel as in no music or noise from the television. But voice chat will work for sure.

On phone you can voice, listen to tunes etc.

  13. I don't think they are bluetooth only says about wireless and I think you may need a transmitter base for them which would render them useless for on the go outside the house ie. phones etc.

Bluetooth is the way to go man. Go for ones that will connect to your main devices via bluetooth and will double as phone headset (voice). Sennheiser are on the price side for bluetooth. Best buy seem to be carrying a brand called Modal now which seems to be their replacement for Rocketfish(former own brand). You can get 2 or 3 sets of the ones I suggested for the price of 1 Sennheiser.

Any headphones that last me 2-3 years is incredibly amazing whereas wired ones would only last me a couple of months before wires would start to go.
