Are you anti-war except when it comes to ISIS or North Korea?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Messiah Decoy, Dec 21, 2014.

  1. Fighting NK would be like fighting robots but ISIS just seems flat out evil by comparison.

The troops fighting ISIS is the first time in my life that I viewed them as heroes.

That's just my rationality bias talking but some wars make more sense than others.

Anyone else see where I'm coming from?

  2. Funny thing is, some of the groups fighting ISIS are labeled terrorist groups by the USA

ISIS is a result of the US and gulf countries fucking everything up in the middle east.

On the other hand North Korea is really a pile of shit. But we can't do much about it for now.

  3.

Man you really think outiside the box.

Open a dojo and train some kids ASAP.

  4.
Are you saying what I said was wrong?

  5. are people really worried about NK?

While North Korea is not a threat individually, with potential allies it could be a threat. Do not forget that North Korea has 1 100 000 soldiers and 8 200 000 reservists which is way more than the US has (1 400 000 soldiers and around another million reservists). Their nuclear program is not quite complete but in a few years it will be. There is something called MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction). If two countries or more use high-yield WMDs against each other their destruction is assured. If each side has nucelar weapons it dissuades the other side to use them. So in that case if there is a war, it will be most likely be ground/sea etc. There is not a president or a prime minister who doesn't know this, they know a nuclear war means thousands of nuclear warheads heading every side of the world. Not just one or two.

  7.
    Nah man.

    I'm just fucking around.

I do find your take on things refreshing.

I'd have to think whether I agree though.

ISIS may be a product of intelligence agencies but a better question is can the American public decide what wars are worth fighting and what wars are not.

I'm pretty sure I pass the test: "Iraq War bad....ISIS war good."

But those poor saps playing teams can't see that sometimes America is the good guys saving the day and sometimes they're the invaders.

It's not black and white. Knee jerk reactions (pro-war/anti-war) won't help anyone.

  11.
Yeah I agree. But idk if a military operation by the US would be a good idea. Imagine the cost of that... The US is already in debt, war against ISIS means hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars.

And I do believe citizens should have a lot more power to decide. But hey, America is an oligarchy not a democracy.

  12.
I'm not worried about the money. Taxes will stay the same for a while, probably.

I'm more concerned with the public's credibility. If Americans can give a simple thumbs up or thumbs down when it comes to foreign policy we'll never gain much credibility among the higher circles.

and if we don't have credibility where will the war games line be drawn?

Thousands of miles away, in a middle eastern desert or will it reach America?

How safe are we, if we don't have any more credibility than the Muslims overseas.

I guess the 60's answered this question. They will bring the war home if necessary.

Before any war propaganda is spewed to gain the backing of the masses.

Slack jaw Mc Cain was having lunch with ISIS in Syria not that long ago, now ISIS are the big bad wolf who are going to decapitate your kids.
We saw the same thing happen with al Qaeda before.

No war is just especially when it involves invading countries thousands of miles away who pose no real threat to the US.

Sent from the back of a jihadist donkey...

  14.
Chris Hedges is da boss. Definitely going to give this a listen later tonight. Thanks Forty.

  15. i only support war as a protective measure when someone is trying to invade your territory.

not sure how i feel about ISIS... NK i don't care about at all.. as far as i'm concerned they haven't been bothering anyone.

  16. Fun fact, America was never a Democracy. To quote a founding father "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on whats for dinner". For a hint think back to the pledge of Allegiance. "and to the REPUBLIC, for which it stands" Unfortunately democracy is used as propaganda to get ppl in line with the status quo. However I do agree with the oligarchy.

On topic. NK never worried me as they couldn't touch the USA. This hacking of Sony shows they are more advanced then we are led to believe. Just saw some special ops show last night that said back in 2006 NK and Syria were working together to build a nuke facility in Syria. In 2008 Israel destroyed that facility but said it would only take about 5 years for syria to get another one up and running. Just find the timing all very interesting.

I think ISIS is funded by the Saudis, maybe not the country as a whole, but one of the many sheiks.Saudi Arabia has an economic interest in Iraq being destabilized(second largest oil reserves). With the USA pumping out oil the price has plummeted and its hurting the Saudis bottom line.

ISIS seems more like a threat to civilized humanity then any other group in the word right now. NK is chill if you leave them be but ISIS has this grad Islamic State planned. I am against war but something should be done about ISIS, just don't know if thats the USAs job.

In a nutshell NK seems only dangerous to NK while ISIS seems dangerous to anyone not following sharia law.

Well if majority rules is wrong what makes a republic right?

    I agree with this.

  18. "Guys I'm totally anti-war, except in this, this, that, and this case."

Yes, moving the goalposts, how very "progressive" of you. Typical liberal.

  19. Well, this country likes bombing other countries, fuck em. Bomb them. It's the only way America knows how.

  20.
So a person has to be a complete pacifist/isolationist or a total war-monger.

People shouldn't pick and choose when war is necessary?

What kind of narrow-minded thinking is that?

According to you a progressive should be against all war including the revolutionary war, the civil war and WW2.

That doesn't sound accurate, does it?
