adjusting to 12/12 slowly

  1. Anybody do anything like this?

Ever reduce from 18/6 to 12/12 little at a time til you get there. By like 15 minute increments every few days.

  2. Never done it but mimicking nature is the goal so it makes sense. Everyday go in press another notch on the ole timer til 12/12.

Be interested to see if anyone has messed with this type of thing.

  3. I know when I had my saltwater reef tank, I noticed they like a sunset and a sunrise rather than the mh just hitting them. I used leds that would come on first and turn off last.
I think I'm gonna have my tubes come on and go off half hour earlier and later as well. Gonna start reducing the time next week probably after my autos are halfway done budding.

  4. Yeah there are all kinds of tricks, Mr Tight on youtube uses a little like 40w light that is straight up red spectrum, I forget the name. Allegedly putting it on for the last 15 minutes of flower "puts them to sleep quicker".

I dont know man experimentation is the only way to tell if it works.

  5. Yeah.
Funny cause everybody always says 18/6 or 20/4 so I did this whole grow 19/5 haha.

  6. I like your style sir

  7. I reduce my 12/12 an hour a week for the last 2 weeks (plant depending)
It seems to hurry things along a bit and in most cases brings out the crystals. White widow really seems to love it.. I've tried it with several kush and they don't seem to respond much.

I am so open minded you should only think like me..

  9. I have done this in a 2x2. Went from 20/4 to 12/12 over a span of 45 days.

What did it do you ask? Caused ALOT of stretch... ALOT.

    Weed was still good though.

  10. Just thinking about this the other day !
I thought the point of going direct to 12/12 was that you force it to flower after vegging and training the plant to your preferential size and shape. If you let it go on an almost natural light way will it not still veg until it feels the "fall" and then start flowering. Id say veg to the point you want then flip when your happy ?

If anything is wrong with what i said let me know so i can learrnnn !!!!

  11. Nope it would be more beneficial to do 36hlurs darkness then chuck into 12/12, this causes the plants to feet into flower quicker

    Chef.

  12. Absolutely FALSE. This is "stoner science" at its finest. hate to rag on your comment but not a single bit of actual science would support this claim. Mother Nature knows what's best, and she sure as hell doesn't turn the world dark for 36 hours to initiate a flowering cycle of any of her plants.

  13. It may not be as good for the plant (it causes stress ) but I put it in 24 hour darkness before 12/12 and it does seem to kick start the process

  14. The world may not do it, but I have many times and the stretch period is over quicker, and bud formation seems to happen 3-6days quicker with a faster finish in some tests.

Here's some scientific evidence why I believe it works.

That and my personal experience with it.

I believe this to be true and not 'stoner science' like putting ice on soil before harvest.

Have a read see what you think.

  15. I just reset my timers and dont ever worry about fast starting the budding cycle.

I grow hydro and have big lights, growing buds is so easy my biggest concern is holding them up when they get heavy.
It dont get any better than that. The plant tells me harvest is close when it cant hold all the bud up.

Alright, I can see where you think this might be a viable option for quickening the switch to flower. But you have to remember that one guys experience and opinion is not scientific fact. Take Jorge Cervantes for example. SO many people take his words as scientific fact and many of his said techniques are ludicrous. The Rev is another great example, "layers and spikes" (LMAO). Kyle Kushman's "veganics", he claims its 95% organic but yet calls it a vegan method of growing... SIGH. Worst part is people buy into these ideas without question.

My point is, there is no scientific study that proves this technique is what caused his quicker finish times. A very healthy plant can flower much quick than an unhealthy plant of the same strain for example. There are many many variables he does not account for in his article and research, that's why i find it interesting but not conclusive

  17. 36 hours of darkness and just flipping to 12/12 are both faster than the OP's proposed 24 day switch over from 18/6 to 12/12.

I think Mother Nature is smart as well, but it doesn't mean everything done in nature is best. As far as I know plants stay in veg through the days with more than 12/12 light. The benefit? None, they just end up getting less light as the days progress until they finally flip to flower.

It would be cool to see a sample of clones and grow them in identical environments, having 3 areas. One going from 18/6 to 12/12 immediately. The second from 18/6 to 12/12 with a 36 hour darkness period. The last having a gradual light change from 18/6 to 12/12. I doubt it'll be a project for anyone soon... but if anyone on here wins the lottery they should definitely do a bunch of grow experiments to help prove/disprove ideas like this.
