Why we here?

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by KidKappa, Dec 20, 2014.

  1. So a while ago I was seshing in my washroom and I looked out my window, there's a brick wall outside of it and it instantly hit me that I'm trapped.

I have the same routine day in day out. Wake up, go to school, do hmwk, watch tv, sleep, repeat. And I think to myself, "this is suppose to be life?"

How can any person living right now be content with what they're doing? We live in a cycle, working for no reason because of "money," fucken paper man. There is no way life should be lived in this way.

Which all led to me thinking, "what's my purpose? What am I living for?" Do any of us even have a purpose, we just do what everyone else has done for however many hundreds of years.

What purpose do any of us serve? Honestly the only thing that makes sense is spiritual enlightenment, I think monks have the right idea.

We live, we reproduce, and we die..............................
Life is what you make of it in between.
Go out and stir up some trouble

Oh the most important part We Grow......................

  3. Yeah sure we live, reproduce and die, but that's such a shallow way to look at it. Our lives our bound to working for money. You can't do anything anymore without money, other than commit a crime... Sure we reproduce, that being what we know as the most significant part of our lives, but where's the enjoyment in that because we have to spend more and more time away from our children to provide for them. This is simply because we don't work to live, we live to work.

You sir are having an existential crisis.

Our existence is indeed absurd as Camus would say.

  5. Than again if the Human Race ended tomorrow who would care?
    The Planet would surely rejoice.

  6. hey man life is what you make it. for me im just trying to live another day. staying alive. then again, you got free will. you can do whatever you want.

  7.

Sounds like a personal problem. Maybe you're so zombified by pot it's put you in a stupor.

  8. what would you rather be doing? Drugs all day and Orgies all night? Sure that's cool but it would get old.

Go change the world, go to a neighborhood that's worse off than yours and volunteer, Help other humans that wish they could have a boring regular life, find something you're good at and make your mark.

You don't need much money to survive and you're only as trapped as you want to be.

  9. you gotta make your own meaning. find what you love and do it. i think you may need a fresh perspective and the best way to do that is to pack your bags and go travelling for as long as you can afford to

  10. Were cave men slaves of nature? If they didn't hunt and gather (work) they died

You should be greatful. Being able to survive off a normal job is actually a lot less work than being an ancient person. You have even more freedom.

Not our fault you spend your freedom at home being bored

  11. Dude you're taking me too literally. I obviously go out, chill with friends, and do other trivial stuff... I'm talking about the big picture; I.e our lives revolve around working for paper (which I guess you could say survival) but the way in which we do it is a lot more limited than before.

And so you know what I mean: 50 years ago a kid sitting outside staring at the grass day dreaming was normal, now sitting outside staring at the clouds is abnormal because it's not doing anything productive and is also weird because there's no device or something occupying the kids mind.

What I mean I guess is that as life evolved, we turned more of our time to work rather than enjoyment of life, which I say cannot be achieved because we're work oriented, not necessarily happiness-oriented or even survival oriented

  12. why is who here?

  13. Well in that case I think your observations are a little off.

Yea we have a production oriented culture, but idk, I've seen the opposite if what you describe.

It used to be "go do something productive" but now we are seeing people want to priorize life more and more.

Just live how you want don't feel.pressured by society

  14. I go to work and am happy. I work with people I enjoy. I get to work and provide for my son. There isn't much to make a man happier. I must be the lucky one.

Funny... I work in I.T. (software development really) but I'm the one always getting caught in the clouds...

  15. We all be just another brick in the wall until we wake up and say "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore"  So get up and go to the window....

  16. We're here to experience.  So enjoy every and all experiences without judging them.  Bad, good, whatever it may be, enjoy it because it's a ONE TIME experience no matter what it is that's going on.  It's all unique, and it won't happen again.

  17. ive come to my own conclusion of the answer to why we're here.. god is the king of everyt-- just kidding, im not gunna talk about 'god' whatever that is.
the truth is any answer anyone gives, is prone to disaproval, simply because any answer given is just words, thoughts, neural pathways, chemical reactions happening in the brain, we can never know for sure if something is the 'truth' or if such a thing exists. humans seem to have become so assured of everything, the ego part of our mind has us believe things are real and true, when it is simply a perspective.

everything in 'life' happens on the inside of your skull, everything you see, hear etc, you experience it on the inside. light travels from a source and enters your eyes, your brain processes that, and you experience that  so their is no raw way to actually know what something looks like outside of the electricity going on in our brain.

i sometimes think that all breeds of life are just the same as all the rest of the matter in the universe, everything on a microscopic scale is an atom, with subatomic particles that make up everything in existance, what makes life different to that? life is essentially the same as a suns life, or a galaxies, it is created of something (hydrogen and helium) born, lives, grows, and dies.  it is obviously not aware of its own existance (actually who knows, it might be) like we are.

im gunna go have another zoot

  18. We have a biological objective which is why our species still exists. Survive and make babies.

That's the meaning of your life. To help the species survive.

Since we know we're gonna die it doesn't matter what else you do until then. So don't feel guilty for "wasting" your time.

    Have fun - die
    Work all day - die
    Do drugs - die
    Stay in bed - die
    Travel the world - die
    Do nothing - die
    Do everything - die

When you accept the fact that there's nothing for nothing out of nothing you'll at least be comfortable with what is. If you look for something because you feel it's there you'll be uncomfortable. Either way - you die.

Or you can believe in God and that there's a beautiful meadow in another dimension with your name on it. Life's a waiting room and your creature is testing you to see if you're worthy the reward. P.S. notice how every religious person is convinced they're going to heaven no matter how they live their life? Yeah, they found comfort.
